Frustration
Well I thought I had most of the gremlins worked out. I went to go drive my bike around the block after new tires and adjusting the idle. The mechanic rode it yesterday and now it won't go into the "friction zone" without stalling. I rode it weds and it was a little low idle due to tweaking and I had adjusted it back up to 1.2k (did not get a chnace to test drive again that day). I hauled it to the tire store and after putting the tires on the mech drove it down the street and back I hauled it back to my house and this morning it would idle low and die (has not needed choke since carb rebuild) i messed with the idle set screw a to bump it a little bit. I noticed it would hang after blipping the thrrottle to about 2k. I'm guessing one of the jets is cloged again, what a pita.
Re: Frustration
Bro I wouldn't adjust your idle until after it has adequately warmed up. These bikes are cold blooded and may need some choke to get going. You may have adjsuted the idle too high and consquently you're at 2K. Will it hang up and stay at 2K after you turn the idle back down?

Re: Frustration
Make sure you don't have any air leaks. Check make sure the air box is on tight and the intake boots between the heads and carbs don't have cracks. If the RPM's hang, its usually due to being too lean or intake leaks as stated above. Try turning the mixture screws out by half a turn or so.

Re: Frustration
No its def a carb issue, it has not been a problem to start or idle for several weeks, goes right to idle without choke, I had lowered the idle to 1k to test for lean-ness (is that a word?) according to a post here or on the archives. And then adjusted back after it was stalling in first gear under load, I never got a chance to test again until today. I will tear the carbs back down and clean out again.
MEG:
Ok when I pull it all out to take carbs of i will note if anything is off, I looked earlier after taking the gas tank cover off that both airbox hoses were still attached. It was def hanging for several secs after blipping the throttle.
I am also charging the battery, it has been getting the beat down lately.

Re: Frustration
Yeah like I said, make sure that the airbox is properly seated on the carbs. They can be a real pain in the ass to get back on because the rubber tends to shrink and becomes too small for the carb to fit into.
After you check that, try turning those mixture screws out and see if that eliminates the rpm hang.

Mine are not a problem, they are actually still pliable and pop in place when pressed. Now should it have changed since yesterday? I wonder if something got knocked loose when the mechanic was working on it.....
Re: Frustration
Did he re-tighten those little 3mm allen-head bolts that cinch up the hose clamps ? I don't know why they made them so small ... seems they can strip easy.
Seems like if it has been taken apart and put back together so many times lately, something in that area could have developed a leak or crack just from being moved around so much. I see little cracks developing in my "carburetor joint" boots. It will probably need new ones within a couple years, some of the cracks are hard to see, but some of them go all the way up and down.
Always something.

Re: Frustration
Whoops, yea he only worked on the tires/wheels. I meant maybe while we were putting it in the back of the truck.
Re: Frustration
Air box was seated properly,I removed the bowls, floats and needles and sprayed carb cleaner in it bolted back up and drove it around, it was hanging a little iat first, I also tweaked it up to almost 2K idle becuase I am have a problem in the friction zone (ie not much of one) and have to give some gas in first or it stalls no matter how easy I let the clutch out. Is that normal? I am about to adjust the air/fuel screws to see if it helps (2.5 out now).
should it run without the airbox on it? I wonder if i am stirring more junk up everytime i am cleaning it....

Re: Frustration
you have a filter between the gas tank and pump?
