Don,
you had to spoil it :-} the idea was to re-assure that clip chains are safe if done properly.

Cool . Not to beat the horse but I hear hard launches on the FZR will ruin the weak transmission. What do you guys think about that? Is it quicker throughout gears? I don't care much about top speed; Twisties is what it's all about !

I ended up ordering 14/47(PTFE) Vortex sprockets and a 520XSO-106 chain. This sucks..nice weather and my bike is apart ..I guess I'll just :drink:

The weak point on the FZR transmission (and many bikes, actually) is the 1-2 jump, leaving 2nd pretty messed up. Some who do a lot of hard pulls through the gears start off in 2nd.

Yup. If you don't get it just right (don't load the shifter hard enough, the pedal is mis-adjusted, you mis-time the gas), the odds are REALLY good you'll blow the shift, and it'll jump out of gear into neutral. Now, any half-assed shift can find a false-neutral, but with REAL neutral sitting right there it's a lot easier.

Doesn't take too many blown shifts to start chewing away at your shift drum and dogs...

sorry about reviving an old post...but got a question. doing the 660 build and looking at new chain and sprockets. what is a good combo to go with for the build. not looking for top speed i have no need to do 140+mph it already does that at factory but would love a little more off the line or when trying to get up in traffic.

Small front, large rear gets you the fastest acceleration. 15/50 seems pretty well available, maybe even 14/50.
