yzf engine swap
does anyone know if the yzf 600 engine will fit in the FZR 600 frame because i need somthing with a little more power and my engines got a ton of miles on it

-shaved frame
-1992 front cowl
-air tech r1 tail
-r6 seat
-1999 yzf 600 tank
-fox rear shock
-vance and hines full exhaust
-stage 3 jet kit

yes it will go in there but you need other parts to get it to work like the wire harness and the like.

to get everything you need most people buy a junk bike. your going to dump around a grand into this mod alone. it only had 10 more hp then them fzr600 so personaly i dont think its worth spend $1000. i was going to do it but i want to check into a gsxr750 motor later down the road....and no that is not a bolt in.

The 95-96 motor will net you about 10 HP (FZR 72-75hp, YZF 82-85hp), the 97+ YZF motor will net you closer to 15 assuming equal tuning. It is well worth the swap IMO and gets you to pretty much the limits of the FZR chassis. Even with the stock motor, the suspenison gets in the way long before horsepower becomes a problem IMO.
Anyway the 97+ motor is a lot easier to swap, but you will need the motor, electrics, guages, bar switches, ignition, carbs, CDI. Basically anything that plugs into the wiring harness. You will also need YZF headers.

iight i didnt know how much it would cost it seemed like it fit but idk all the stuff you were goin to need

Well like ABS mentioned, the most common swap is buying a totalled YZF where not much survived other than the engine. I have bought six of them and the most expensive was $1300 (and it was in one piece). If you happen to have the space to store and patience you can even buy YZF's as the come along (or any other kind of bike) and part them for you buy price (or more) and keep the parts you need. That is how I put my current YZF together. I guess the point to the train wreck reply is that the YZF motor is a direct swap (same mounting points) which is at least half the battle when swapping to a different motor.

Hey Rich,
Did you use YZF headers? My understanding was that they will present issues with fitment in the FZR fairing.
I've got everything else for the swap, but I thought I was limited to FZR600 exhaust in an FZR400.

FZR400 (1WG): Purchased a perfectly good FZR400 with Yoshimura slip-on/EXUP, Yosh jet kit, Factory ignition advance, Racetech springs and emulators. It even had great bodywork. Like some diseased maniac I had to mess with everything good about that bike. Well, at least I have better brakes now.
