1000 forks on a 600

Post by Sic Semper Tyrannis »

Ok folks, first question on my 600r. I bought a '98 fzr600r that has bent front forks. (Refer to my intro "Howdy") So now that the holidays are behind us it's time time to get to work. In looking for replacement forks I came across a set of '94 fzr1000 forks that got my thinking. They come with the bottom clamps. Would they fit the neck on my '98 600r? I am replacing my front wheel regardless so having to get a new front wheel is already in the cards. Thoughts?

The steering stems are different so it isn't a bolt on swap. You'll need to press the 600 stem into the 1000 tripples. But to do this right you'd need the rest of the front end. Wheel, triples, clip ons, etc. This would the same for any other front end swap as well. If memory serves correct.

Thanks Sweekster. I may have to give it a shot.

YZF600 front end for the win. The forks bolt right on with no modification. The only caveat is that you'll want to run the YZF wheel as well.

Or, replace the forks with another set of FZR600 forks. The front end really isn't all THAT bad if you replace the springs (and maybe throw in some emulators if you have the dough).

Interesting. I'll have to see what's available. The wheel issue isn't a problem. I'm replacing that anyway as it's what took the hit. It may be fine, but I'd rather change it out.

Do happen to know what years YZF600 front ends are direct bolt ons for my '98 FZR600? I've seen a number of front ends on ebay from newer models.

All years of the YZF600r (not R6) and Euro FZR600R will bolt on.

Thanks for the clarification. Of course, many of the forks on ebay are labelled as both. I'll have to query them to make sure they're YZF600. Thanks again!

The average ebay seller may not know the difference. If not, try asking if they are 41mm (YZF600) or 43mm (R6) forks.
