This is the engine number...what is the bike?
After eventually finding out that my 87 fzr400 is a 2tk model I have noticed the engine number does not match the chassis, the number is 3HE-027362 - what year would this be? It also has stamped on the head.
thanks

Re: This is the engine number...what is the bike?
I move this thread over to the 400 forum.
The engine case prefix will not necessarily be the same as the chassis prefix. For example, my 1WG has a case prefix of 3BF. The 3HE designation is usually used when referring to the FZR600 (non-Foxeye). However, I believe my 3HE 600 engine has a different prefix even. So... it gets a little complicated. Basically, you will find different prefixes on parts of the same bike becuase the parts can very often be used across different models. Just for kicks, have a look at the front of your motor to be sure that you have a 400 motor. If so, "399cc" (or something similar) will be cast in to the motor. Just trying to rule out that you don't in fact have a 600 motor. My guess is that the motor designation is different due to the different bottom-end internals (rods, pistons, ...).

+1 to fzrbrandon
My 600 motor has the 3HH prefix even though it's a 3HE model. The only way to know for sure what size motor you have is to check the displacement stamping.

Hmm, 3HE is a 600 prefix so it looks like you own a hybrid bike a light alloy 400 frame with a 600 engine dropped in place (same engine mounts for both bikes)blensen wrote:+1 to fzrbrandon

Just to be safe look on the cylinders for the displacement stamp/casting.
I hope it is a 600 as that will be one lovely bike to have

YG, if you were directing that at me, my motor is definitely original to the very steel frame. If it was to the OP, he would be very lucky indeed to have the 4/6 hybrid right out of the box.yamaha_george wrote:Hmm, 3HE is a 600 prefix so it looks like you own a hybrid bike a light alloy 400 frame with a 600 engine dropped in place (same engine mounts for both bikes)blensen wrote:+1 to fzrbrandon

Very Lucky YOU, a out of the box Hybrid, 600 pipes stainless steel from delkvic<?> 140 quid unless you want my old ones although I did give Ruddiger first dibs.tno45 wrote:I take it I now need 600 downpipes as I need to replace these? but the sprocket/chain would be the same?

Sprocket and chain hmmm a lot of guys have the lighter chain ie 520 rather than stock. my suggestion is to buy the stock numbered tooth front and rear sprocket but a longer chain (120 link??? ) and cut it to suit . make sure to write down what sprockets you use and then how many links you actually used so you have reference for the future.
Re: This is the engine number...what is the bike?
Thanks George, I guess it explains why the calipers are R1 or R6 ones.
I have a bid on some downpipes on ebay but if I don't win them and no one wants yours I will be looking for some.
