FZR 1000?

put the seat back on with the fzr tank cause you got it on with the yzf but not the fzr. the seat might make the fzr tank look better. but as the pics stand, the yzf tank all the way. fzr tank it just to bulky looking

the fzr tank is off a 1992 one. but it's not mine. it's taken off of my friends tank.

apsolus, do you want the bike to be as taken from the factory, because if you don't than an, earlier fzr 1000 tank will work as well

Ive run both those tanks on my bike, and the front of the 1k tank is too wide, the bars will hit the tank before full lock since the 1000 tank does not have enough recess right in that area. But if you are running dirt bars, you could probably get away with it just fine and it would look great, but if your keeping the clip ons, theyll likely hit, or at least get in the way of your wrists.

Grab the front mounting bracket for the 1000 tank to the frame, bolt it to the 600 frame, and bolt the front of the YZF tank on and youve got half the swap done already .

you say an earlier tank will fit? but i can only use 87 88 tanks right? unless i want to fab stuff up right? i might go down that route cause i ain t gonna finish this project anytime soon

apsolus, the 1992 and up tank will work just fine on your 1988 1000 as far as i Know. Even the yzf 750 tank will.

blensen, the tank overhangs the frame only in the front, near the triple clamp.

mrfreeze5 i know that the 1000 tank overhangs in the front of the frame and that there is not enough room for the handlebars to move all the way to the end on each side, but i already have some spacers welded on my fork limiters from my last project.

It fit the frame nicely IIRC, but its been a few years, and it was only on there a brief time before I took it off since I kept hitting the tank. When I hear overhang, I think of misalignment of the edge of the tank and frame, which wasnt really an issue(bear in mind this was 4 years ago, trying to remember accurately). If it did overhang, it wasnt much. The problem was the top edge where the side meets the top. If you look on a 600 tank cover, you see the large oval recesses along the top edges of the tank, the 1000 tank does not have that recess, and is broader across the top of the tank. You should be fine if your steering stops are extended, but you are losing a fair amount of steering movement though. Nothing significant enough that it would ever come into play riding on the track or street, but it may be a nuisance later trying to move the thing or low speed maneuvers , and it did on occasion crowd my wrists/thumbs.

Ive still got that old 1000 tank in storage back in Tn, but wont be able to get it any time soon. Its definitely a bit larger, and I really like the way it looked on the 600, but I was going to use dirt bars with it as a 'fighter to avoid the tank interference issue as soon as I can get my hands on it again. The tank fit the bike great, but my bike was rough when I got it, and I could see the marks where the bars hit the tank. The rest of the fairings at the time were 90 FZR1000 and fit like poo, but heres a pic of my bike the day I got it with a 1k tank on it.

If I were building a FZR600 fighter with dirt bars, a FZR1000 tank would be my first choice to use.

You can see some of the marks made by the bars into the tank in this first pic. This is the day I bought my bike with grand visions of change in mind for it. 5 years later, not done yet .
