switch on the left side fairing
Hi,I am new to this site and I just got a 1991 Fzr1000 to use on a racetrack.I noticed a retangular switch on the left side fairing and i was wondering what it does.Any help would be appreciated .Thanks
Re: switch on the left side fairing
Got a picture?
My YZF750 has a rectangular switch on the left fairing up near the top of it. It is a fuel reserve switch. But I'm not sure if the FZR1k has the same thing or not. Sweekster or Mcfizzer should be along shortly to verify what it is.

Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.
Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....
I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

Re: switch on the left side fairing
http://www.toby.be/product_fiche.asp?KitID=55 See the switch on the left side fairing. If that switch is indeed a reserve switch how does it work?.I notice a sort fof sensor inside the gas tank and 2 wires and a connector. That connector was plugged of the wire harness.I can't figure out how that switch could work. Thanks

I've got a 93 1000 and can confirm the switch is the reserve switch.

Re: switch on the left side fairing
reserve switch, get low on gas or you notice sputtering
hit the switch -get some gas
hit the switch -get some gas

Re: switch on the left side fairing
Thanks for the replay.Yes I know how the reserve works but I only wanted to know how"that switch" works.Ok....you got 2 wires coming from the sensor.Where those 2 wires are connected and what make work?.The fuel pump only pump gas and I don't think those wires are connected there. The sensor sense the low gas level then send or trigger something.Esactly what?.Regular fuel petcock have On and Reserve and 1 taller brass tube with a filter on it.That is the On only. You then have a shorter brass tube with a filter on it. and is the reserve..ThanksFizzinatorr wrote:reserve switch, get low on gas or you notice sputtering

Re: switch on the left side fairing
What he said. It's basically sends a "cut off" signal to the coils (causing them to turn off and on-hence the sputtering) to let you know you're low on gas.Fizzinatorr wrote:reserve switch, get low on gas or you notice sputtering

Check to make sure the switch is working btw.

That what I wanted to know.I won't need it on a racetrack.Thanks
Re: switch on the left side fairing
Well make sure if you do make it a race bike to constantly have it on, wire it in so the gate thinks its always on reserve. The pumps are pressure sensitive so if you're racing and have a galloon left on the tank then its on the off position you'll be chuggin off to the side... keep it on then the fuel pump will work just as it is.

there should be a complete circuit diagram for the 1K's in the WIKI

I am assuming here you are in the UK or Europe as you have not put your location in the personal profile and these bike do vary market to market .
