Rear wheel options

I was wondering if cad or anyone with an early R1 98-01 could help me out. I notive the YZF 750 is similar to that of the early R1's. Can anyone tell me if the rear spindle is the same as the YZF 750 one? My second question would be, is the rear spindle the Same as the Exup's? I have my yzf swinger and my Exup wheel on the bike so maybe I'll just pull it off and see if it'll fit but I was just curious.

Also if the rear swinger is indeed the same as the early R1 I think that may open up an upgrade to get a lighter wheel banged on the back...

Ant ,what about just changing the rear wheel bearing sizes to fit the axle you wana use? that would give you even more options ..? just a hought tho have you felt the weight of later model ZX10 wheels there feather light compared to the standard yzf/fzr even later model R1 wheels and there easily available and quite cheap to buy from breakers ang the rear sproket offsets almost identical to the R1 models

I'm not sure about the spindle between the 750 and R1. The micro fiche has different part numbers and if you look at the pictures, things are orriented differently between them. I know the bearings are different sizes though. I don't think you'd be able to find bearings to mix either because they are not usually made in a per millimeter size difference. But if the spindle diameter and length is the same, then I see no reason why it won't work.

I can't remember the cush drive bearing size is, but the YZF750 uses bearings that are 28mm id x 52mm od x 12mm thick for the 2 rim bearings.

I do know that the entire wheel and drive assembly between the YZF750 and the Thunderace are the same. Axle, adjusting blocks, cush drive, brake arm, caliper, bracket, bearings, spacers, and rim - all the same.

I would love those style rims on my FZR they look great. I have an 05 ZX6R which has the same style wheel as the ZX10.

With regards to the wheel bearings, goto a bearing specialist they can get any size you'll need (lots about cheaper to buy from them too) that supplies to the trade or a good parts shop they should be able to sort you out np, use a good local machine shop for the spacers, i got a full set made (6) for £25 to fit the Dymags to my 1K

Those were my thoughts steve, Get the wheels I want, the bearings at a specialist as they've got to be somewhere, then have spacers made to align sprocket. My only thing I've pondered is, most new rims are 6" wide opposed to 5.5 as the exups. But .125 on each side shouldn't matter too much.

The front wheel would be nice too but I would need to find something with the correct spacing for the rotors and calipers. Duc's and Aprilla's have the same bolt patterns on most of em but they're pretty damn expensive. I'm sure I could find me a pair of kawi rims to bang on. I can have the wheel itself machined to fit the speedo gear too, A machinist on my fazer forum Dave, did that. He used R1 forks and rear end along with wheels and he just machined into the rim and the left part of the fork to fit the speedo gear so I wouldn't have to lose that.

Well it's a nice idea to certainly kick around and a hell of alot cheaper and time saving then trying to source me some nice dymags or marchenssi's or better yet the 5 spoke marchensi's used on some OW01.... :drool

I'll keep you guys posted on this and if anyone has anymore ideas on this topic lets throw em out there

What about a buell front wheel ....mmm...rim mounted disc's , would be totally rad and would certainly draw attention, the rear wheel could easily be machines to take a sprocket carrier / converted. i had a look at a mates the other day ....has really got me think'in....tho that maybe a bad thing
