Starter/kill Button Question

Post by dans96fzr600 »

How hard is it to change the Starter/Kill button? Mine is starting to become hit and miss and I want to swap it out for the new on I just scored on ebay. Does any one have a write up or pics on what I need to remove? I couldnt imagine it being that hard I just dont have a ton of wrench time with bikes in general.
As always thanks for your time and the info,

It is actually very easy. You only need a screw driver and hex head (5 or 6mm)to swap the switch. Best advise is to loosen or remove the clipon. The only other thing you will need is a pair of pliers (needle nose) to deal with the throtle cables as they are a fairly big pain in the butt. I would suggest that you look at the cables and see if you should replace them as well since you will have the switch undone.

I think once you take it apart might just need to tighten up some loosend screws. I went thru the same ordeal with mine

I recently had my stock start button fail on me, so I ran down to radioshack and picked up one of these:

It installed easily, fit really well, and only cost five bucks!

I'm always out to pinch a penny, but I am curious how much did a replacement starter switch cost you? (I can't imagine it cost much).
One little bottle of spermicidal lube nevery hurt anyone.

I got the whole switch for the right bar for $12.50 used of course on ebay. I have not got a chance to install it yet since I ride the bike daily and dont have a car yet. RRBike

What steps did you have to take to replace the switch?
I am having the same problem at the moment.

Thanks,

Hey, everyone who needs a new switch run over to the pictures section and check out the how to on putting R6 controls on. I got a set of 2005 R6 controls for 22 shipped. All it takes is some soldering of wires really. Stock throttle cables are used.

i have an 89 fzr that i'm parting out if you wanna pick up my start button. You might want to look at your switch inside though, you might just have dirty contacts or a loose wire that needs to be resoldered.
