Just a suggestion

OK as stated, this is only a suggestion, to maybe make this forum more efficient. How can the blind lead the blind?

When I joined the other forum, I think it was a requirement for new members to state which model/year bike they had. We all know, or should know these bikes differ from model to model year to year. They also differ (so I've discovered) electrically and maybe otherwise.

For example the exup versions have different TCI's, in the UK we can switch our headlamps off, maybe why ours don't run like crap with a dead battery? also the charging rate should be tested with "No Load" (no headlamps switched on).

Do US FZR carbs have adjustable needles as stock? UK models defiantly have them (I have three sets). Also weather conditions (cold/damp) will contribute to various problems, corroded electrical connections/poor starting blah blah........ Tell me about them. Mines running on three pots @ the mo #2 is doing jack shit (probably the HT lead).

If members had their model/year of bike and location in their profile, IT would make it a damn sight easier to answer their questions (remedy their problem) rather than bombard them with unnecessary questions!!

There's also other issues concerning location, Which I sometimes have difficulty with. The terms/names used, thanks to google I'm getting there.

Fender or Mudguard, Triple Tree or Yoke, Wrist Pin or Gudgeon Pin, Pin or Prong, to mention a few. Imagine a newbie (in the UK) He would think "Fender" WTF is this retard on about.

What about asking. How often are You "Stoned", please tick one.

1. All the time
2. Frequently
3. Not very often
4. Rarely
5. Never

This should not be compulsory tho, only stupid people will answer

Hmm,
someone once said two nations divided by a common language or some such.
I am the lucky one here on the list I speak both versions as I still go to a gas station rather than a garage or petrol station. I have gotten used to triple trees, the misnoma that a gugeon pin is a split pin and neither is a wrist pin. non-tec versa tech here as well, the boot & the trunk are the same darn thing fenders are mudguards unless applied to women ...................

Some may not want to do that. Maybe explain the reasons why, or ask them when posting with their problem, that It's in their interest to state the model/year and location/climate and the weather conditions in their post. I.E. FZR600 89, UK (some don't)

I charged my 5 month old battery 2 days ago (running on 3 pots). Mines stored outside in the sunny UK, it's not cold nor damp and hardly ever rains (<<< Liar) so there's absolutely NO way I have corroded connections, which can/will cause voltage drops to the ignition system, effect the battery performance and can actually drain the battery. Today I though, fire the bike up would she start? nope.

PS I finally got some dielectric grease which I had never heard of before I joined this site a few weeks ago. When I get the tank off, get to the plug leads and everywhere else, I'm guna grease every connection in sight, hopefully that will be the last of my electrical woes

The di-electric grease is applied to the wire openings of the plugs & sockets as an additional sealant against ingress of water vapour. I use a syringe (should be easy to find round Manchester LoL) to force the grease round the wires rather than use the tube it comes in as the nozzle is way too wide.

As to spades connectors & their recepticles a smidgen evenly coated on each is all you need.although I have seen them pumped full but I think that gets messy.

If you can get to see a Ducati up close & personal you will see what I describe as Italy has Snow as well as tropical type heat.

The type you use to refill ink cartridges, from when I had a HP printer (expensive cartridges) I hoard all kinds of stuff. They are also great for topping up batteries.

The bike decided to start Today, after charging the battery again (#2 still done nothing tho), so It's almost certainly dampness/corrosion.

#2 cyl not playing - have you pulled the spark cap off, checked its condition, checked the condition of the wires inside the cable? If the copper looks chewed up, try trimming it back 1/4-1/2".

I pulled the tank today, just over 10V to the coils, both LT connector blocks were corroded, the Ignition switch connector was also corroded.



Cleaned & greased everything, coils now have battery voltage. Then it looked like rain so I wrapped it up, hopefully I'll get to the HT leads tomorrow.

Nah but it does get wet occasionally. real rain you get back home in the tropics (locally known as "bucket a drop" ) not this fine spray you get here that seeps into every darn place.

Geo you live in the Sunny South of England, here in the North East we get different kinds of rain, the fine spray You mentioned & heavy rain (not tropical). The worst rain I've ever seen was in Florida . That's real bad, The cars windscreen wipers were rendered useless.
