please help!

Hey everybody! My name is Kevin and I live in Hickory, NC. I just picked up for fzr600 on Sunday and it is my first bike so my common knowledge for it is very slim. The bike ran great and cranked right up everytime i needed it to. I pulled in the driveway after going up the street and i shut it off. When I went to turn it back on it had no power at all. the indicator lights didn't light up or anything. I checked the battery and its reading 12v. The connectors are good, and the ground is good. Anybody have any clues what else this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you checked the battery and it said 12v was the key on the off position? Or was it on run? You will hear a lot on here that the FZR is very fickle for power. Read the voltage with the bike on and then again when you are hitting the start button.

check the main fuse?

Also this may seem really simple. Is the petcock in the on position? This wouldn't account for the indicator lights not coming on but would help if they didn't come on because of battery drain.

the main fuse is located under the left tail fairing

okay guys. thanks for the help. it was with the key off. i figured out what was wrong though, well sort of. i wiggled the power wire going to the starter relay and suddenly got power back? has anybody else ever encountered that?

Your Location (in the world would help) Weather conditions, also the year of the bike.

Hmmm.. you mean with the key on?

If the problem was the start relay, You mean the Red wire (cable) connected to the battery positive yes?

If so remove the cable, disconnect it from the battery and the starter relay. Grab hold of the Terminals (connectors) and give them a real good tug, the cable could be failing and may snap (happened to me).

You should also clean the Terminals (connections) on the battery & starter relay.

I am in the USA. Hickory, North Carolina and the weather has been around 70 defrees farenheit. No the key was off with the battery reading 12 volts. When the key is on it reads 10 volts. Yes, it was the red wire connected to the positive side of the battery. I cleaned the positive and negative side terminals and everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the help!

Ah I noticed you gave your location in your first post, it's far easier (for us) if you enter your location in your profile (we forget).

If the battery is reading 10V when the "key is on" (ignition switched on) you may need to charge the battery, the battery voltage should not drop to 10V.

Amen 10 v is far to low. I'm suprised the bike will start. Try what Mawler said about charging the battery. And don't do it while the battery is connected/in the bike you can have bad jujus with the ignition box from this.
