520 conversion...

Post by rehaume »

I'm wondering if the 520 coversion is worth doing, is it very noticeable on the acceleration? can someone fill me in on the info on this for those who have done... thanks

Edit: nevermind, i just read about it on the vortex page on ebay, but for those that have done it and would like to express their opinions on it please do

Just did it last week. www.sumofallparts.com
129 free shipping. In hind sight I would have spent the extra money for the ptfe coated sprocket.

AMAZING DIFFERENCE. Also just so anyone that wants to know. I gained about 1000 k in every gear and only lost about 4 mpg. I opted for the 14/49

Chris.

Also there is a guy selling a 14/47 sprocket set on here, no chain but you would probably save a lot of money. gogofizzpow I think is his name.

I did the 520 conversion as well, but went with 14/45.

I love it. It didn't kill the mileage at all, and I only gained about 500 rpm in each gear. The slightly better acceleration is from the gearing, and the smoother running I feel like I can attribute to the newer chain. (the old one was well on it's way out)

+234598734523 on that one. No more jerking at lower rpm with engine decelleration.

I did the 14/49 and the difference was huge. The smile on my face after installing was priceless.

Second. If you go to sum of all parts and select your bike you can get whatever size sprockets you want. As for wheelies.... Probably, I can't do wheelies. To chicken.

I want one of those 520 kits from sumofallparts, but it dont list 90 fzr 400 :dubious:. When you go to a 520 conversion, what is the difference in teeth from a 530, my rear sprocket stock is 55 teeth, what would that be in a 520 ?

520 is the width of the chain. If you use a 520 chain, you have to use 520 sprockets.

Right, but if my 530 stock sprocket has 55 teeth, and i now want a 520 sprocket, does the teeth count stay the same ?. 530 55 teeth stock, = 520 sprocket teeth ???

Only difference is the roller width / sprocket thickness.

A 55 tooth is stock on a 400? That sounds awfully big.

Check this link part 14, is a 55 teeth stock sprocket. I cant even find a 55 tooth 520 sprocket, so something teeth wise must change when you go to a 520. http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_d ... 0&fveh=370.

Your 400 should have a 428 chain(smaller than a 520). This is why you have a 55 tooth rear.

Going to 520 on a 400 would be a performance DEgrade
