DMV problems
Hey guys i just bought a 90 fzr 400, it has been a track bike for a few years and is no longer in the DMV system. It has a 17 digit vin number, but somebody told me to make it street legal i has to have a DOT sticker with serial numbers in it, or i will never be able to register it ?????????? im in CA.

Re: DMV problems
As long as you have the clear Title and the Original Vin you should be able to register it

Re: DMV problems
I have a bill of sale, it was a track bike, there is not title, i ran the vin and its not in dmv system anymore, i think the bike must have a EPA sticker, or you aint going to get it registered ???? i dont know
Re: DMV problems
I think it depends on your state but you may have to have it inspected to get a fresh title for it.

Re: DMV problems
If you paid 800 best you take it out of state get it done and then "import" it to Arnold back yard.
Slight hi jack has Arnold signed the bill yet that makes it illegal to change the exhausts from stock yet ?

I talked with CHP today and they told me you dont have to have those EPA AND DOT stickers, u do need them at the dmv. The dmv will send you to the CHP and the CHP will inspect the bike, turnsignals, lights, etc, and run the VIN, and then give you a police stamp, you now can register the bike with the DMV

George, i dont like Arnold, he is the worst gov we have ever had, he should have stuck to making movies

Re: DMV problems
Unlike the Regan, Arnold has never played the president just some thick muscled guys LoLFzrmike33 wrote:George, i dont like Arnold, he is the worst gov we have ever had, he should have stuck to making movies. I dont know if that law has passed or not.
anyways glad you can get your bike sorted although you will have to detail it for all the working bits such as horn & indicators & working instruments etc.
Re: DMV problems
Yeah horn, headlights etc, shouldnt be a problem. Im going to stick the 600 fzr motor in it. I hear its quite a good bike with a 600 in it. Need to find out about cooling the motor, i hear you can use a 600 radiator, but not the fan, it wont fit.

Re: DMV problems
I would say get it inspected and taken care of with the stock motor then over the winter drop the other one in
Otherwise you may get some problem during the inspection and don't forget mirrors

Probably the soundest bit of advice so far in this thread !!!Fizzinatorr wrote:I would say get it inspected and taken care of with the stock motor then over the winter drop the other one in

Re: DMV problems
You dont need the stock motor to get it inspected, it dont matter what motor is in the bike, just so the VIN numbers pass the check, the stock motor is trash, so that idea is outtttt.

Re: DMV problems
I realize this thread is a little old. However, AFAIK, the inspector WILL more than likely check the engine number with the number listed on the title. I'm not saying registering without the original motor is impossible. I'm sure it will make you jump though a few more hoops though.Fzrmike33 wrote:You dont need the stock motor to get it inspected, it dont matter what motor is in the bike, just so the VIN numbers pass the check, the stock motor is trash, so that idea is outtttt.

Re: DMV problems
Talked with Chp, they told me matching frame and motor serial numbers will be better, specialy since all i have is bill of sale, and 17 digit vin on the frame. I wish i could have found a 400 that was street legal already, costing alot to convert it from race bike to street bike.
Re: DMV problems
i just did this with my 89. what you WILL NEED
lights of all types
speedo with odo reading (i just tied mine on with cord and the dude didnt notice haha)
17 digit VIN
state and federal emissions stamps
title or bill of sale
MONEY
WARNING: this may have only worked for me because i was 22 at the time and i explained to the DMV lady that it would be impossible for me to know the history of the bike....
the motor wasnt original on mine so they just changed the motor number on my title, no biggie.
go in the morning, act cool, find the youngest inspector posible. my dude looked like a skinny forrest whittaker and he was extra cool.
good luck man. it may seem impossible to get a license plate, but it can be done.
