wiring harness question

Post by nrl944 »

i have a 89 gauge cluster with a 98 motor and im assuming the wiring harness is a 98 also. when i got the bike the cluster, headlights... werent on so i picked up the stuff needed and mounted it but when i went to plug in the harness the connectors were different.

is there a how to or wiring diagram so i can cut the harness to connect

Not sure of the differences. The only differences I know of are the 91/92 single headlight models.

Are you located in the states? Just want to make sure you don't have a YZF600 motor and harness.

The 89 harness was different if my memory serves correct. 95-98 were the same. 90-94 can be "updated" to mimic 95-98 with the 5 wire VR mod/swap. Now I'm speaking in regards to the North American Spec FZR600 (18inch rear wheel) and NOT the FZR600R(17 inch rear wheel). If you can, post up some pics. That would help us better help you.

The 89 Cluster (dash) to my knowledge differs to the later models These match my 92 .... I think these are 89 .... These ar 600R 4JH foxeye and could be similar to YZF600

Totally from memory, I think two connectors power/feed the cluster (dash) the other powers the Headlamps & Turn signals (on my 92). The diagram RD posted (thanks where have you kept that hidden) shows the Three connectors, which should make things easier for you to decipher.

Some models/markets have Dark Green & Light Green for the Turn signals, not Green & Dark Brown, which should not be confused with the Brown Signal fuse circuit which powers the Neutral & Oil Lamps, Temp Gauge & Tacho.

Keep us informed on your progress.

That has to do with the VR, not the cluster.

We really need some pics to tell you what you have.

Do you have the CDI (Computer) that plugs into the harness? That might help identify what you have.

ya i have the cdi. i think i figured it out. its 13 & 16 wires. the extra are just power n ground for the individual connector. all the colors match up i just have 3 power instead of one and an extra ground. i think. i am debating on cuttin up two complete harnesses to make this work. not sure i like the idea of doin that.
how much do these run used?
