Tank or Airbox...which goes on first??!!

Post by vmaxmike »

If I install airbox first I can easily get the breather tube on that goes on underneath in center of airbox (larger tube from engine). But then its impossible it seems to drop tank assembly down in (fuel pump in the way).
If i install tank first, its again seemingly impossible to get the beather hose on the air box before dropping that in. Any suggestions?

I do tank first. Like you said it's easier to get the tank on cause of the pump. But the bar that goes across the front with the 12 mm nuts I leave loose. Then get the air box on and tip the tank back a little to make it easier. But I have pretty slender hands. Hope that helps. It's a little easier to use the clamp to pull the breather hose up too.

Chris.

Tank first. My breather hose has enough length that I can attach it while the box is tilted forward.

I always do box first. For some reason I've had way more trouble getting the airbox on than the gas tank. That could be because of my rather large hands though.

From what i can remember when I had the FZR tank, I always put the airbox on first, with the breather connected.

With the tank installed I'd say it's impossible to connect the breather. How the hell could anyone expect to get their hands in there?

Airbox - that way you can align the hose clamps easier to tighten them down.

Doing Air box with breather hose connected securely first finally worked for me. Then, sliding the fuel pump off the bracket for moment so the tank would drop in did the trick. Then just reconnect pump and the one bolt

I don't understand why you had to disconnect the pump.

Did You remove the plastic knob from the fuel tap?

I always fitted the airbox then secured the rubber trumpets to the carbs, fitted the breather with NO clamp. The riders seat was removed yes, I placed the tank where the seat would be, then moved it forward into position, then refitted the plastic knob. simple.

mmm. I've had my airbox off 4-5 times over the last month without removing the tank. :headscratch:
