A few weeks ago I rode over a set of train tracks. The bump I had to go over was much more violent than I thought it was, and consequently my keys fell out of my ignition. It didn't help that I had an entire set of work and house keys attached to that ring either, making it easier for them to fall out. I didn't realize that the keys had fallen out until I was already on the freeway. I got home, turned the ignition lock cylinder into the off position using a screwdriver and went back to the tracks to look for the keys.
...of course, I didn't find them!
Luckily I had written down the key code and had a key made at Texas Yamaha for around $14.
I don't know why I'm so amused by this, but when I got the key IT WORKED! I guess I'm used to the locksmith copying keys rather than making them from dimensions, or whatever they use to translate codes into keys.
Anyway, this is just a friendly reminder for all of you to go out and write down your key codes, and don't carry any keys on your motorcycle key rings!
