hi
hi, im new to here but i have got an old fzr1000, its a G reg but has 17inch wheels and 41mm
forks, it also has 6 pot brakes and no exup valve....
i think i have got a bag of bits to be honest but that dont help me get parts for it...
the clutch isnt very good and is still dragging when pulled in... i think maybe the slave cylinder is at fault and need an over haul.... where is best to get one from???
im also after some pads for the front brakes but not sure what year they are...
where can i get pads from???
thanks for any replys i may get....

Re: hi
You would get a little more detailed advice if you put your location in your personal profile.
Yamaha builds different detailed bikes on any model for a particular part of the world
A picture of the "suspect" front calipers would be good as then we can probably identify the bike they are from or the caliper manufacturer and go from there.

Re: hi
As to what year our American cousins call it a VIN plate and the UK bikes have them too. it is up close to the steering stem.banditman wrote:hi again, i will post pictures as soon as i can...

How to decipher that info is in our WIKI. as for engine size most Yamaha's have that moulded into the engine cylinder block I have never bothered to look for that info or the engine number either which is usually stamped on a flat area usually on the clutch side top casing but I'm not sure that is the FZR as i have not bothered to check mine since i bought it from a Geezer I met in the PUB. LoL

You have an FZR1000 so it's 1002 cc (998cc was the YZF-R1). The clutch slave was the same for all years if I recall correct so 87-95 should be the year range you can look for.

Re: hi
87-88 used a 989cc. the 1002cc was the exup motor. itd really help to see some pictures. could be a 89-90 exup with some 6 pots on it. or if he's saying the wheels were converted to all 17" and by that I take he means the rear thene I would suspect a 87-88. PICTURES PLEASE....

Re: hi
I must admit, I have very limited knowledge of bike/wet clutches, does a worn clutch slip, and not drag? From my experience I don't think the clutch is worn.
My first bike a 1977 Suzuki GT 125 (3000 miles), the clutch dragged real bad. I correctly adjusted the clutch cable to no avail. I stripped the clutch, everything checked out to spec what I did notice, the oil was very thick/heavy it smelt like hypoid gearbox oil.
I refitted the original clutch, then used the correct grade oil problem solved. That was in 1979, so I'm probably wrong.

Re: hi
if a clutch is worn it should slip no matter what shouldn't it. I mean all the hydrolic part of it is how it engages or disengages.. Cable is physically doing it and a wet clutch is the means of using fluid to move it... It the friction plates are worn it should slip...
What do you mean drag? like its working as a force against the back wheel?

Re: hi
what i mean is when i start the bike and put in to gear, it wants to move away,
i have changed the oil and removed the clutch and cleaned everything i can,
i have also, stripped the clutch and cleaned and buffed the steals....
everything looks cool in there and still it wants to pull away witht eh clutch in....
has anyone got a diagram of a clutch so i can see if its together right???
an exsploded view would be great......
thanks....
