This is just a variant of shape memory polymer (smp). It can be used as the matrix for a composite. Reinforcements are standard: fiberglass, kevlar, carbon fiber.

Shimano has been using this in some of their cycling shoes for a few years.

Also under the SMP category is heat shrink tubing.

CRG industries introduced an SMP product a few years ago too for racing and recreational repairs:

And a less high tech version is medical casting tape.....

it is the fiberglass material they use for casting bone breaks. Just pull it out of the package, wet it and lay it up in the shape/size you want.


I once had a roomie who was a medical intern. He was into bikes and would bring rolls of the stuff home. It was great for fabbing up bike stuff.
