help bike wont start

i was riding yesterday no problems, i went to start bike today ignition turns on oil light on, put onto run press start and nothing battery reading 1182volts lights come on battery reading 1140 help needed

11.82 volts is low. Remove the battery and charge it with a motorcycle battery charger, after you check the levels and top up if necessary, also remove the top up plugs whilst charging. If the levels are really low check your charging voltage when you get the bike started, lets hope your VR has not overheated.

You mean the bike doesn't crank?
I would first check the Blue/White wire to the starter relay (located behind the battery). Disconnect it and connect a voltmeter hit the start button and see if there's any voltage. If not the start button could need cleaning, but your oil light is lighting up when you press start so that's unlikely.

cheers mawler was hoping youd come to the rescue ,charging battery at moment,it was new battery so should charge, im hoping its just drained as i have left ingnition on a few times, but why after i switch ignition on i hear the relay kick in and nothing else ,usuallly i hear the fuel pump and wahtever else it has to do before i start but now nothing, what does the vr actually do it is the old one so i will be replacing (the oil light comes on when i hit the start button)

When you switch the ignition on the main relay (next to the turn signal relay) should click (if the bike is in neutral) the main relay is the brains behind the safety switches, neutral, kickstand, and clutch lever switches. As to what's inside it i don't know.

The fuel pump should prime for 5 secs approx, you could have a faulty run stop switch, would account for the pump not priming and the no start.

Ive got my bike in bits, I'll through the battery on and check if the fuel pump primes while in gear and kickstand down. You could have a faulty safety switch.

The VR controls the battery charging voltage, a fried overheated VR usually overcharges the battery, boiling it dry, can blow bulbs and kill other electrical components. Lets hope your not in that boat, and you have just flattened the battery.

i had the relay out i thought suspect and was ordering new one while battery charging ,WELL while looking at serial no,s i found a green pin inside the terminals i cleaned it up and yes (THE BIKE STARTED) i am still getting spare relay and looking for vr on ebay

The fuel pump primes with the bike in gear. However my bike would not crank with a fully charged battery

The oil light illuminated but no power to the Blue/White wire on the start relay.

The culprit was corroded connections on the main relay, I sprayed Servisol switch cleaner on them problem solved.

Power for the fuel pump also comes through the main relay.

another satisfied customer i read all topics re bike wont start to see similarities but going through 53 pages is hard it would be a idea to link all previous posts up together ie carbs/ bike wont start/ electrcal problems in other words trouble shooter ill gladley donate to this website its a great site but it needs a link for ease of donations it is also nice its voluntary

I get your point, on searching to find your particular solution. These are old bikes so bad wiring, corroded connections ageing switches/components e.t.c. will be the norm. It would be difficult to cover all possibilities.

Get yourself some dielectric grease to seal moisture out of the main relay connectors and any other connectors. <<<< I learnt that from this site.

I spend spare time reading up on others issues/faults, Those issues/faults could one day plague my 600. The advice and solution given I consider education. The wealth of information here IMHO is invaluable. I see you donated, good man.

On consideration, I don't know if dielectric grease is flammable, someone please chime in if you know different.

Therefore never use any grease/solvent or whatever on the VR connector or VR to Stator connector.

The Stator has three outputs, each wire kicks out 40-60 Volts AC. Therefore each of the three wires can be a FIRE HAZARD

I don't think it's flammable. I use it on my VR. No probs.
