normal idle

Post by 89fzr884 »

Well I just got my carbs cleaned and synced by a local shop, along with the intake valves cleaned, and with the choke closed all the way the bike idles at like 1900-2000rpm. Is that normal idle, it seems a little high but I'm not sure.

Thankyou

How would I lower it to 1200?

I would take it back to the shop and get them to do their job. If you fiddle with it they could refuse to touch the bike.

It could be just a simple adjustment, there again it could be something they have dropped a clanger on. It's their problem not yours.

:stupid it is easy to turn it down, but let them do it, 1200 is correct. you paid for it to be right, and i'm sure it wasnt cheap, so make them do it right.
I did that.

:headscratch: Why cant you stick your hand under the frame by the fuel petcock and turn the little idle knob and lower the idle speed or did I miss something? :headscratch:

He paid good money to have his carbs cleaned/balanced e.t.c. Therefore he should expect the bike to run fine.

Some garages mark idle adjustment knobs e.t.c. with paint, so they can easily see if the adjustment has been tampered with. He fiddles with it, and its not the idle adjustment knob. The garage discover he's been fiddling = they will charge him again. That's the reason I did not suggest or tell him how to adjust the idle knob. The choke slider/sliders could be jammed, throttle cable misrouted/jammed, rubber intakes leaking, airbox unseated e.t.c.
