previous owners suck

Post by burns556 »

hey everyone still working on my basket case 92 that the po never took care of found that one front and one rear rotor bolt came loose at one time and grooved out an eighth of an inch of the inside of the left front fork and the same on the rear caliper braket not to mention they broke a bolt on the rear rotor tried drilling it out and drilled thru the rear rim :swear banghead well i got a new used rim off ebay not a big deal and also a rotor because they hogged out the rotor bolt holes too so i have a question on my front and rear rotors there are flat washers under each bolt but when i look up on my yamaha dealers website and look at the parts pic for the rear brake it only shows bolts and no washers which leads me to believe that there shouldnt be any washers if some one could take a look at theirs and let me know if you have washers under your bolts that would be great thanks

Yeah, there shouldn't be washers.

OK lets look at this logically:-

Yamaha has no washers shown

But saying that there are limitations on manufacturing being a constant size

As far as the rotors are concerned they should be dead centre in the calipers IF NOT warped discs !

so placing shims (read washers) of the correct thickmess to correct any mis-alignment is sensible !

On any bike of mine the next owner will find any amount of "corrections" to the original design / manufacturing.

The fact the PO of yours was so mechanically challenged as to hog stud holes & carve gouges in the fork leg
probably means you should see if they are required yourself NOT that just "oh yamaha or anyone says" !!!!!

(you have built that fork leg gouge back haven't you as it is now a force focus and can gradually crack and then break.)

FORK LEG REPAIR :-
Take the fork leg out dis-assemble remove all rubber & oil residue from the leg bottom and weld it up.

COOL IT SLOWLY ! Then pop it it in the oven at gas mark six for an hour { stress relieving the welded area } again cool slowly .
when cold Dress the welded area and no one will ever know.then re-assemble the fork leg.
Job Done half a day and a 6 pack for the welder

yea thats what i was thinking about having it welded up i got some new rotor bolts and now am waiting for wheel bearings for the rear and a new used rotor thank god for ebay otherwise this project wouldnt be getting done as fast as it is i guess ill put the new bolts in the rotor when it comes in and see exactly how tight it is to the rim and also if there is any movement its funny because all the rotor bolts have small washers humph :headscratch:

Now, if the washers were under the rotor I would agree with you about corrections. However, the washers are on top of the rotor at the bolt head. That doesn't change anything except put the bolt head farther out and possibly protect a paint job. I say PO is a giant fail.
