New Guy - Just saying hello (pic inside)

Post by littlebr4d »

Hey!

My name is Brad and I just acquired a 1989 FZR400. My friend/mentor used to race motorcycles in the 80s/90s and this is the last survivor. It has been sitting in storage for the past 10 years or so but it ran like a champ last time it was running. The bike came with a small mountain of extra/spare/previously removed for racing parts that I need to go through. Aside from the Yosh can on it I know it has a Ohlins rear shock.

This is my first motorcycle and I'm looking forward to learning about it and getting her road worthy! The only key I have for it has been broken so I haven't had a chance to even try to get it running but I have a feeling it won't take much with some fresh oil, gas, plugs and battery. Here's how she currently sits, pic was taken right after I got her home. The other headlight was removed for racing and the hole was taped. :)

Welcome, good to see an old race bike getting a second chance at life. Please put your location in your profile for us so that way if you need some help/some to ride with we know if we are near you. Also I think it's funny that the bike and the poster of the guy are both missing an eye.

Chris.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I updated my location. :)

National Bohemian is an old beer that was originally brewed in Baltimore in the late 1800s. The brewery has since moved to Wisconsin but 'Mr. Boh' has remained a Baltimore icon/mascot. It's cheap, but I love it. I am a 'beer connoisseur' (that fridge is literally full of microbrews) but have a deep-seeded love for that cheap American light pilsner. I have a sleeve tattoo dedicated to Maryland and he is part of it.

Unlike Mr. Boh, I do have the other 'eye' for the bike!

Big Welcome for Baltimore MD.

My family's business was in the old Hamm's Brewery (next to Natty Boh) for 17 yrs. I actually got to walk all threw the old place. It's all office's and storage buildings now, but has a huge neon Mr. Boh sign on the top of the building. It even winks every once and awhile. Good Beer and cheap. Long live Mr. Boh

Glad I'm not the only Baltimoron around, hon!! I pass by the old brew tower often and it is visible from most places in baltimore. Actually, the storage facility this bike was kept in is only a few blocks from the natty boh tower.

and for those not familiar, here's a birds eye view of the tower... that's a big red neon sign and he winks every few seconds. :)

Hi welcome aboard, glad you found a riding buddy with similar interests (beer is always a good start lol)
Feel free to SEARCH the WIKI which contains a LOT of technical info. Questions drop them either in the garage or General forum, we do have chat and we also have a"BS" thread which this month is called "May's Meanderings"

Try and get your mentor to join us as we need all the TECH help we can input, every one here has something to bring to the table but there is nothing like experience first hand to solve aknotty problem :-}
