clutch basket question...

Post by rehaume »

Will any year of the FZR600 clutch baskets work in any other year of the FZR600, for instance I have a 95 FZR600, can I use a 89' FZR 600 clutch basket?... just trying to see if they are interchangeable i would think that they are, just trying to make sure because my clutch is startin to slip, if I give it full throttle at like 5K in 2nd my rpm will jump to about 10K with not much gain of speed at all.

what has the interchangability of the clutch basket got to do with your clutch slipping ?

If it was sticking then the basket may have been "toothed" worn & would require careful reworking or a new basket.

Slipping is poor adjustment worn springs and knackered plates or the steel were not put in correctly on assembly.

i was just asking because if i can take a basket out of a different bike and put it in mine i will. I'm tired of dumping money into this thing everytime i want to go ride.

R,
From the symtoms described you are jumping WAY ahead of yourself no basket is required .

Just re-adjust the clutch properly at worst the following are wrong
a} cable is stretched out of adjustment (RARE without breaking)
b} the push rod has welded it self to the actuator ball
c} the clutch springs are just knackered and need replacing.
d} the clutch steel were assembled wrongly last service

C} is easily checked by checking their length against the service manual

D} is just a case of inspecting the steels for the sharp edges of the stamping ALL facing the same way.

B} can be checked when doing C & D

All this is manual labour & fresh oil and even that is not required IF you lay the bike on its LEFT side (when seated on it ) and removing the clutch cover.
