I think Im going Fighter
Im currently seeking a headlight that speaks to me. Im leaning toward a Suzuki M109r unti. Still doing undertails, Im getting the midpipe made soon. I need to either track down a belly pan I like or make my own. Im leaning towards FZR400 aftermarket fiberglass lower that I can trim how I want. Im not ditching the clipons either, I really like them. I just felt wierd about completely covering up the engine with fairings. What do you think??

Re: I think Im going Fighter
Yeah, I kind of agree with you, the blacked-out engine looks badass. The headlight of the M109R and most of their cruisers....... personally I think they're ugly as sin.
Your bike is looking like a waspy super CB-1 or Hawk GT up front, why not try to find something more round, simple, traditional, see how it looks ?
I'm sure you'll make the right choice, lookin' real good so far.
I could see Angus Young riding that bike, with HELLS BELLS playing in the background.

Re: I think Im going Fighter
Yeah, I was really going for an evil wasp look all along. I really cant come up with a headlight that I like. I dont want to do a basic round, and Im not happy with the double round options, and the headlight fairings are so expensive. The only one Ive found that I really like is $700

I want something menacing and aggressive, but subtle. I really like this style too, but cant find a screen that would work.

Dude..finish that f%^*er already!!! There. I've said it and feel better. Ok back to your bike. As long as you continue the black and red theme you have going it'll look good. My suggestion would be a late model gixxer headlight trimmed in that red that you have.

Re: I think Im going Fighter
donnnnn't do it man!
Didn't you see the terrible photo-shop i did? Your bike will look kick ass either way but i def. prefer fairings
besides this thing has taken so long...do you even remember what riding is like?
the way i see it you'll finish sooner with the fairings...you are 2 inches of plastic away from FZR/YZF/R6 greatness
either way, good luck.

Re: I think Im going Fighter
Here's my rationale on this. I really like the fighter look and I really want to ride. All I need to ride right now is a new battery, a headlight, wire my speedo, tune the carbs and be done. Im still planning on building a 400 frame with YZF engine this winter and I can throw the fairings on then, or Ive got Fizzinators old ride in the basement which would work well for them too. The fighter phase on this will only be temporary I think but is something Id like to try. Ive been tossing the idea around for about a year now. It really doesnt require me to change anything at all except my headlight setup. Everything else will remain as is. I also really like how narrow the bike seems while still having relatively fat looking tires. I also really like that big 120/70 front tire too. I think it would be a fun ride regardless, but rest assured, Im not selling out and it will eventually get its R6 nose, but I cant quite get it how I want it right now and given my current living situation with no garage and limited access to my tools, I cant fabricate as well as Id like and I would have to outsource work which I dont want to do. So umm yeah, thats where Im at.
Re: I think Im going Fighter
do you still have the old headlights before the R6 conversion? If so, just zip-tie those to the fairing stay for now.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

If you want a good streetfighter fairing for a decent price, hit up Ebay Germany. That is the birthplace of streetfighters and it where all the good stuff comes out of.

Re: I think Im going Fighter
And now you finally feel my pain!! Damn the headlight!! I still can't get mine right. I keep looking for ideas but nothing fits what I'm trying to do. I'm not even sure I know what I'm trying to do but when the design comes I know it will be great. It's the front of the bike and it will make it or break it. The effort that goes into a custom headlight will pay off...I know it....or I really hope! I always hated how most custom bikes just use an off the shelf light and slap it on and call it good. That's lame. I do think it will look nice fightered and showing off that giant lower triple clamp.
Sadly I am no help on the light situation. I really am glad though that someone understands the hell that it is of finding the right light.

Re: I think Im going Fighter
headlights are do-able...see my avatar for proof
start with some pipe hanger flexible metal to get it on then fabricate brackets for it when the positioning is all set
the results are so worth it.

Re: I think Im going Fighter
Ive already got the R6 headlights set up with an adapter plate that I made, but doesnt sit low enough to meet the fzr fairings and still look right without moving the fairings up considerably. I might be able to pull it off between the two. I dunno. Im still teetering on the whole decision. I will just have to see where it takes me. My original plan was to take the r6 nose and trim off the lower back corners and just follow the lines of the headlights and keep the full windscreen, which I like, and use a belly pan to get lower coverage and still retain a kind of waspy look. I like the newer R6 fairings but didnt want to put them on this project since it would look too much like a straight r6 replica. Im really torn, but there are more issues to deal with putting the nose on now instead of this winter and dammit I want to ride this thing!

So just go with the r6 upper for the summer to get the bike on the road... Make you decision in the winter... Get the beast on the road!!

Re: I think Im going Fighter
in that case quit worrying about cosmetics!
get the Riding important stuff done first, make a list with cosmetics as the last thing that way you will at the very least have a ride-able bike
here's your list:
1 new battery
2 headlight
2 wire speedo
4 tune the carbs
5 cosmetics
