paddock stand?? or other way to lift rear of bike.....

Post by ruddiger »

hi all,

i have to change my back tyre(&shine the rims while its off) but i remember seeing on georges saltmine site that a standard paddock stand cant be used on a 3HE,
any ideas what i can use?
checked halfords and wondering if axle stands might work? http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165727

any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

Axle stands can work but you would still need a way of getting the bike in the air. You would have to get a universal stand that does need spools to be installed on the swing arm.

I got mine at harborfreight.com.

made it easy to take the tire off, don't know about shipping over seas though.

Small scissor lifts can work, one on each side of the swinger but the bike is not ubber stable once elevated. But they can work. You might seach for PVC stand as well. Manufacturers such as Pitbull make pads for swingers like the FZR's w/o spools. Or add spools to your swinger and you will have many more stand options.

Before (hack mode, still a hack at heart) Notice the precision shim job under the jacks.

After (slightly more presentable)

Chris ,
harbour fright will not ship except us based buyers I got my Cuz to post my stuff on.

I used "gallows" of 4* 2 lumber with the cross beam in Rafter brackets from the local building store with 2 VERY big bolts holding each side in place. The hoist was two ratchet straps to the seat sub frame. To stop it swinging about I lowered the engine sub frame onto two axle stands as been seen else where . This is ideal for suspension work for setting static sag & rider sag.

Wheel stands with lips I have a mis-trust off I much prefer the grab a spool paddock stands ( which is why I made mine for doing ordinary wheel maintence.
A front paddock stand that "plug" into the triple tree stem is ideal to stabalise the whole shooting match BUT most stand pins are the right size in diameter for the FZR but NOT long enough to be clear of the plastics (at least not on the single head lamp version I have.

pitbull stands have a feature where a rubber peg is on the rear stand and fits right under a swingarm w/o spools
