Re: shifting problem
As an Ex Yamaha service engineer I can tell you one thing for certain yamaha neutrals a bitch to find I have abatch of RD400's and they have ALL got a FALSE neutral between 2 & 3rd gear. The FZR I have when the bike is running & I look for neutral I MUST rock the bike PERIOD to get neutral.trump19 wrote:hey guys well now that my bike is running i have discovered that its hard to shift and its really hard to find neutral any ideas
Re: shifting problem
I must just be lucky, I routinely beat on mine and am always able to find nuetral without a problem and rarely get a false neutral. Good luck, Geo knows his stuff so he's probably right. Mine only has trouble when first started and the oil is cold as far as shifting goes, have you tried after riding around a bit to get the oil thinned out some? Maybe try some sea foam and see if it's gunked up from sitting?
Re: shifting problem
i've got no problem finding neutral either, half up from first... always their never fails.... hell sometime i miss second and hit neutral

Re: shifting problem
there's a write up in the wiki on the sea foam usage I think, I don't run it normally in my oil since when I ran it right before a change the stuff came out so dang thin but as a one time treatment to get the gunk out like I mentioned I would guess it does a good job. I only say guess due to having not taken my motor apart after or before using it, just seeing the oil I treated with it.trump19 wrote:yea i think ill try the sea foam see if that helps. the problem when its running i cant find neutral when its off i can so i dont know whats up with that... but i do have to say a big thanks to all that have helped me so far another question i have my buddy has a 91 and he's telling me his is slipping in 2nd any ideas on that it only does it in 2nd .
Re: shifting problem
have you thought simple and tried to adjust the linkage and then lock it back in with the jam nuts?
