Wow, this came out of my crank case. Any ideas? (uodated)

Post by Shocka311 »

I'm sure I didn't drop anything in the carbs. It was coming from the crankcase. I dropped the oil pan and pulled all this out of it

Thats my pinkey to get an idea of their size. I can't see what it came off of when I look up into the crank case. Any idea what the hell this could have come off of? This f*ck sucks!

i think its part of the case. it looks like a stud and the part where the stud threads into is aluminum. still can't figure out where it came from.

The red circles in the pic above are where you thread in the 6mm welding tips and then attach the tubes from your synch tool (I did them two at a time when I did my carbs). The Idle Air Mixture Screws are located at the bottom of the carbs just under the bowls. If your carbs have never been adjusted then they will be covered by brass caps. To make the actual adjustments you'll see spring loaded screws in between the carbs (green circles). What tool did you decide to go with?
So to make this clear , you thread 6 mm welding tips in the black boots that are under the carbs..or where the red circles are?? Have to remove the bolts ,right?
So to synchronize the carbs do you fiddle with the idle air mixture screws which are at the bottom of the carbs or the spring loaded screws in between the carbs?
Do you use gas or water in the home made synch bottles? What do you watch in the bottles? Make a mark??
We need to make a detailed sticky on everything about carbs from synching to adjusting floats to what each screw does ,with pics and such..to help slow people like me and others.. :shocker

YB,
Ok as you requested I have put a place holder to this thread in the HOW-To's by RageDigital
"HOW-TO: Everything you need to know about carburetors" When I get back to my real desk I will edit the picture from this thread with blurb so it becomes part of the Official Carbs How To page.
That should work.
You rock! That should eliminate hundreds of questions ,organize all the carb stuff into one place and make life easier

Wow , that doesn't look fun. Still have all the piston rod bolts? Clutch/Tranny bolts? It doesn't look like is something that came from the top..You would have heard it big time..IDK

Shocka311 wrote:anybody have a motor for sale? I got my carbs tuned so I didn't seem to be runnin lean or righ and it was idling and revving better than ever. Pulled it out of the garage started it and it sounded like something broke in my crank case and started rattling around. It would barely idle and when I gave it any gas it rattled like f*ck crazy and killed it. Something bork in there and sounds terrible. I'm going to drop my oil pan right now to see if I can see anything but I think my engine may be totally f*ck. I can't f*ck win.
looks likes that's from the bottom end, question is what caused it???? something thats got caught up in the top end I.E. pistons hitting valves whilst your hitting the gas, will knock the shit outa your bottom end. whatever it is its serious shit. Id want to know what caused it!

Well after I got all the shit outa the crank case I put some oil back in it and started it up. Since the noise from the cc was gone I could hear the noise from the piston. I think it may be one of the piston bolts or something. Whatever it is I got the motor pulled now and am getting ready to pull the head. This sucks. Right before the season starts and right after i lost my job so I can't afford to fix it. If I drank I'd be f*ck plowed right now.

Ok so I've pulled the head and the cylinder, the clutch; I've pulled everything I can off of that engine. NOTHING! I don't know what else to do. Should i crack the whole case apart? Can you even do that and get it back together? I'm into territory I am not farmiliar with at this point. I think I'll replace the rings while i'm in here though. :swear :swear :swear :swear :swear

Shocker,
My advice is to try and do the 3d jigsaw puzzle that is those parts to see how they fit together (If at all),
There is something strangly familiar about that washer looking object with what looks like two fixing hole can you GENTLY get it flat again?
If you do the puzzle post the pics to give us a better clue.

Looking at those pics again they look like the Clutch cage backing plate boss that goes in the centre which would explain the washer looking object and the broken alloy threaded fragments are the cast pillars that are the center of the clutch springs, the threaded parts are what remains of the spring retaining bolts.

I tried to fit them together and couldn't get them to fit in any real way, they're just too chopped up for the edges to line up. I'll flatten the washer and take a picture here in a bit. I took the whole clutch out and everything looks fine there. I didn't take the clutch cage off though, would it be behind there?

I'm thinking main bearing/rod caps.

You can't see anything broke from the oil pan opening?

are they 3 studs or snapped bolts?

i'm puzzled why there's no nuts or snapped off bolt head's to match those 3 stud's/snapped bolts, still floating around somewhere?

I have the head and cylinders off now and they're not either of those, thats what I origionally thought too. I think I know what they are though. 100 points to yamaha_george for helping me figuring it out.

I'm about 95% sure they are pices of the cast pillars and the clutch bolts. My clutch cage isn't broken but I was looking at the pices and the bolt ends thread into the pillars perfectly; the shape ans size of the aluminum pices are exactly the same also. There are also several pices of bolt which I thought were one broken bolt origionally but each of the pices have an obvious broken end and a good end. So, how did they get in my crankcase? I remember the guy who sold me the bike telling me it had a brand new clutch and clutch cage. The old one broke and that f*ck just left all the pices in there. They just happened to finely catch a moving part. There were tons of pices cloging the oil pump screen and I think thats why it was running like shit. I'm going to clean all the carbon deposits off the valves and pistons and everything (theres tons of carbon probably also why its bee running shitty) and put it back together and hope that it runs well.
:tks: yamaha_george, I was about 5 minutes away from cracking the case open when i remembered what you said and took a closer look at the pices and the pillars on the clutch cage.

Hmm, seems the Old Dogs memory is not so bad after all,

I would send all the old broken bits to the original owner with a little note that you did not pay for them so you can have the back LoL
