Blinkers supposed to stay on?
Finally, decided to fire up my Fizz for the riding season here in Missouri. I picked up a front fairing and had to take the short stalk front blinkers off as they didnt work with a stock fairing. Went to Cyclegear and picked up a pair of flush mount amber colored signals. Two wires, red and black. Plugged them into the short stalks attachement and they come on, they just stay on. Flash fast both front and back. Are the lights supposed to stay on like running lights? Both the front and back are on. They flash when I use the turn signal though.
On another note, I looked at the online wiring diagram and there are supposed to be three plugs per signal: green, black, and blue right? One side has all three the other side doesnt.I assume blue is the power?

Re: Blinkers supposed to stay on?
The front signal lights should come on with ignition.
The rears should not.
Actually, I investigated wiring my rears to stay on full time (replacing the rears with front units), but found out that it is actually illegal in some states to have running signal lights on the rear.

All Original, except for a custom saddlebag set up. A machine shop buddy of mine seamlessly fitted two GS bags on the rear end for last summers ride.

Hmm, the fronts do come one with the ignition. The rears too. Could there be a crossed wire? Theres only two wires per light. They are aftermarket. Only two wires coming off the harness too.

this must be an "american" thing as my blikers only come on when I turn on the left/right switch.
Re: Blinkers supposed to stay on?
George that may right! I just rode for a few miles and they didnt burn out or blow. For some reason I'm thinking the rears arent suppose to stay on. I tried pulling the wires one at a time and they go out, no blink. I'm stumped. There's only two wires coming off the harness and two wires coming off the blinkers. Up front I have the blue and dark green wires hooked into the red and black wires of the aftermarket turn signals. The black coming off the harness isnt being used.

Not that I would have known there was a difference in model if you had though.

Oops, yep let me fix that.
Re: Blinkers supposed to stay on?
We have the same year Fizz. Anyone know if the rear lights are supposed to remain on?WSM wrote:Hummm... sounds like someone needs to fill in there LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! <hint hint mark>yamaha_george wrote:WSM,

Fronts yes, unhooked mine to be flash only. Fun that MO doesn't require you to have signals nor mirrors. Rear is flash only, that's why there are on two wires. Your fronts should be dual filament bulbs.

Hi,
Can anyone else verify that the "American" models have front amber riding lights(ie they stay on) & flashers but the rear are flashers only

Re: Blinkers supposed to stay on?
From wiring diagrams iv saw some US front blinkers have dual filament bulbs 1 for blinkers 1 for running lights, if the new front blinkers only have 2 wires then they are blinkers only.
US wiring diagram is here http://fzronline.com/wiki/doku.php?id=park_turn_signals
Green is positive black is negative
You have 2 positives connected to the front blinkers Blue running light which is earthing to the rear blinkers V.I.A. the green wires lighting up the rears, when blinkers are switched on the front green positive is earthing through the Blue front wire.

Re: Blinkers supposed to stay on?
ok so disconnect the blue wire? Just connect the positives to each other and the negatives to each other? Without the blue I won't have the runnings lights.mawler wrote:From wiring diagrams iv saw some US front blinkers have dual filament bulbs 1 for blinkers 1 for running lights, if the new front blinkers only have 2 wires then they are blinkers only.

Re: Blinkers supposed to stay on?
Thanks a ton! Disconnected the blue and redid the red green and black. I zip tied the right side negative wire to the forks for now. I will have to remove the fairing to find the other black negative wire. But for now it all works. No running lights. And they blink strong.
