I'm cleaning and resynching my carbs and I'm going to check the air mixture screws when I'm done but I don't know where the adjusting screws are. I have the carbs and everything out right now and taken apart. Thanks

Awesome, thanks. What are those "J" shaped hoses that come off the carbs? Are they supposed to be attached to something cause mine haven't been for quite some time. The ones that are attached to the white plastic T in between the first and second, and third and fourth float cover.

From what I remember, they are vent tubes.

Those are where you plug the tubes to sync the carbs right? I made that homade carb sync tool and I'm having a hard time getting it to work. Do I put one tube on each of those at the same time or just put one end on at a time when I'm syncing one and two then two and three? I'm confused. I could really find a how to anywhere.

Ah...i just made a booboo. The red circles in the pic above are where you thread in the 6mm welding tips and then attach the tubes from your synch tool (I did them two at a time when I did my carbs). The Idle Air Mixture Screws are located at the bottom of the carbs just under the bowls. If your carbs have never been adjusted then they will be covered by brass caps. To make the actual adjustments you'll see spring loaded screws in between the carbs (green circles). What tool did you decide to go with?

I found the thread with that pic and it helped alot. I just made a tool out of two starbucks bottles. When I took the carbs apart and cleaned them the only screws I saw were the drain screws at the bottom of the float bowls. I thought origionally they were the air mixture screws. They have a pointed tip on the end inside the float bowl but the manual and some diagrams I looked up said they were the drain screws.

K so I tried to sync the carbs and I could NOT get 1 and 2 to sync. The water would start to even up then it would keep going so I wouuld turn the screw a tiny bit the other way and the folw would change and slowly keep going. It seemed like it was going to even up but every time I pulled the screwdriver off the screw it would keep creepin one way or the other. It went back and forth like that a bunch of times before I gave up. Any sugestions? The previous owner synced them for me after I bought it but said there were cracks in the carb boots letting air in. I'm not sure her really tried though. There are visible cracks on the outside of the boots but the inside looks fine. Are there any tricks to get them to even out?

I would give those boots a massage with silicon glue just in case the cracks are hairline. Once dry and put in place a quick blast with carb cleaner on the outside or soapy liquid will show up leaks

Just keep at it. Once you get to the point where they are even then you have to move the screws in even smaller increments. Also try not to press on the screw while turning them. That opens throttle, which will cause the fluid to move to the other bottle. This isn't really that quick of a process. I had two house fans blowing on my motor to help prevent over heating and I also went through about 8 gallons of gas. You just gotta be patient.

do you think it would be bad to put some silycone gasket maker between the block and the carb boots? I think I may be leaking there.

Sweet thanks, thats gonna be a bitch to get to. Well I just cleaned and siliconed my carb boots and I'm waiting for them to dry. I hope that it was cool to use high temp gasket maqker to seal the boots to the block cause thats what I did. I don't want to wait for them to dry. I WANNA SYNC NOW! Its been snowing for 3 days and theres a short break before its supposed to snow for another week. RAAAAAHHHHHH

So to make this clear , you thread 6 mm welding tips in the black boots that are under the carbs..or where the red circles are?? Have to remove the bolts ,right?
So to synchronize the carbs do you fiddle with the idle air mixture screws which are at the bottom of the carbs or the spring loaded screws in between the carbs?
Do you use gas or water in the home made synch bottles? What do you watch in the bottles? Make a mark??
We need to make a detailed sticky on everything about carbs from synching to adjusting floats to what each screw does ,with pics and such..to help slow people like me and others.. :shocker
