THE FZ-R1 600 project Version 2.0

Post by muffinman098 »

I want to start off saying I am recently new to this site and street bikes in general, Many of my friends own street bikes and I used to race and ride dirt bikes but that's about it. I saw Shredex's bike on Craigslist and loved it. I wanted to buy it so bad but It never worked out. But its all good i'm going to hopefully try and fill his shoes and start on my own fzr to r1 conversion. I am finding it difficult to find r1 parts for a bargain though. Ok this is the bike I put a deposit on today.------->

It's a 1993 yamaha Fzr 600 with no title. It has a street fighter style headlights and front fairing, a stage 2 jet kit pod filters instead of the airbox. I paid $470.00 for the bike it runs perfect and its fast! But im going to have to spend another 250 to acquire a title from this tow company or i found a frame with title for $120.00 I was going to try to paint the frame black also so it might be better to get the separate frame and paint it and then transfer all the stuff. Idk But yeah I found r1 fairings heres the list price that the guys asking---> I've got both left and right upper and lower fairings for the 04-06 year R1. The left side is ready to go top and bottom. No cracks, rash or broken tabs. Paint is custom so it may not match the factory burgendy if thats what you're wanting. (Not sure though) Right side Upper has rash, but no cracks or broken tabs. Lower is same minus the rash. No major damage but has scuffs. All intact though. ( i do have a second lower one that has a broken tab and rash, ill throw that in for free if you buy the other one)

Ill break them down individually, but if you;re interested in all we'll work something better out.

Left Upper - 65
Left Lower-50

Right Upper- 44
Right Lower (good one) (Black one)- 50
Right lower with damage- Free with purchase of other, or 10 alone.

This is for the 04-06 year R1, not sure if it will fit other years or not. Tail piece is primered black and has all tabs. No cracks gouges or rash. Pretty much just needs to be scuffed and painted. 60 OBO.

I think i might be able to get him down alittle, but should i hold off? I want to have money left for the r1 fork swap and headlights and sub frame. Any first thoughts? Suggestions? Am I beginning on the right foot? Thanks guys.

Why don't you buy an R1 and put the FZR's engine in there? j/k

Can't wait to see the progress. The FZR600 engine will also fit the YZF600 and FZR400 frames...

From the looks of the pictures it has an Airtech R1 tail.
its from a kit by Airtech

Also looks to have a full Yoshi exhaust system.

Problem #1
I saw Shredex's bike on Craigslist and loved it. i'm going to hopefully try and fill his shoes
:drink:

AHAHAHA, oh, i just couldnt help it! :duh: :cop: that emotty is for you shred!

As Shred stated, that is an airtech tail. hard to fashion a bitch seat there, so you are probably on the right track finding a new one. you will have some subframe chopping to do to fit any of the newer tails, or you can also get the corresponding subrame from the tail you want, and cut off the stock fzr and weld the new one on. this will take some fab work, but is doable, i have an R6 subframe on mine for my tail.

if you are going the new frame route, and you can find an FZR400 frame with title, they are aluminum, stiffer, and lighter that the 600 frame. The engine pretty much just bolts in. $250 seems steep to get the title, maybe show them that you can get a frame with a title for $125 and they will match it, otherwise they are trowing away money. They expect you to pay for it because you need it to register, but possibly seeing that you wont be buying it will convince them to lower the price. even still $700 for a running 600 is not a bad deal.

Good luck with the build, lots of info here and people very willing(almost too willing) to give you any information you desire. and information you probably dont desire.

oh, and lots of pics! we cannot survive without our daily allowance of FZR pics....
I did that.

The airtech tail can be made to fit a passenger seat. I did with Zero's bike. I don't remember what seat we used though. There will be welding required and a wee bit of fiberglass.

Sorry Guys my bikes at my Buddies house until I sell some boat stuff at my house. Tonight I was going to swap some misc stuff out like grips and levers and such and I'm also thinking about starting to try and cut down the tail and fiberglass my own bitch seat. But as far as running goes with the new battery installed It starts every time and runs like a champ I let my friend ride it for letting me keep it at his house and my buddy clutched the hell out of it i was getting worried :jawdrop: He's a pretty good dirt bike rider but he seemed so nervous riding that bike I didn't want him to burn up the clutch but its probably fine. I think it was me being pariniod about my new toy.. lol But,I am going to change out all the fluids tomorrow, I also started thinking about it I have some forks in my shed I am going to measure them and hope they fit and look good. All for now peace :headbang: Srry for no pics didn't have cam,.. but it looks damn fine in the garage with all the dirt bikes ;)

Hey i just thought you might like to see another fz-r1. I basically went off Shreds post like you are but I haven't gone near as in depth, I only did the fairings. I don't have many pics except for the one in my sig.
