i tig welded on 1/4 inch aluminum flat stock, drilled and taped it...

Probably a reference to the fact that fork braces are an answer to a non-question. Suggest you do a search into fork braces on the forum written by some old engineer and refers to the physics and a guy called Erik Buell who wised him up on the subject back in the early '80's when they were pals.
