Can anyone tell me what this hole is?

Post by kilika2 »

I was cleaning the sprocket cover. This hole is about the front sprocket casing. Upper Left is front and bottom left would be standing in front of the s.c. Long story short is if I stick a broach in here I can touch the innerds of the sprocket cover.

Thanks
Chris.

Well, have you ran the bike?
if you've ran it and no oil is spraying out then I think its one of those things you just don't need to worry about. :]

Yeah, I found it when I tore the bike down this winter. Ran like that for the 5000 miles I put on it. The only thing was there was a rock in the hole. Didn't see any oil. I figure it's just a air hole. Incase the sprocket wants to do any scuba diving.

its probally just a drain hole if water builds up on the engine if it gos into the sprocket area then its not a worry. the crankcase breather is on the back of the engine in the center so its not that im gonna go with its a drain

Shred is correct about that being breather. I guessed drain too. Just thought it was weird ti drain INTO something you have a gasket on to seal out water. Crazy.
