Hello all,
I have a 89 600 that I'm rebuilding and I was wondering if there was a cheeper alternitive to the oem rings, I got quoted about $78 per cylander and that seemed outta site. for giggles I looked up oem rings for a 00 r6 and they were about $25 per cyl, so what gives?

Re: piston rings
They haven't made the FZR600 in 11 years and it has been out dated technology for 16 years. New parts are becoming very limited so the price for them is high. I've heard of car people having an engine builder making new rings. You might want to try that route. But ultimately, it is going to cost either way you look at it.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Re: piston rings
i figured it would cost some money but almost $300 for rings! (thats what a paid for the bike, and it ran!!) that just seems not right, one would think if they were running low on stock or had something that was out dated as the fzr is, that they would be giving them away to get rid of them. im going to look into seeing if the wiseco ring set will work with stock pistons for an option. if not i do know a trustworthy engine builder i will ask.

I am in the same boat, currently doing up a 89 model 600 and would like to put some new rings in while I have it apart.lennyz600 wrote:wiseco called me back, they said that thier rings most likely wouldnt work, in the mean time i found some yamaha ones on ebay. when i get the chassis rollin again i'll have to post some pics.
Did Wiseco give you any explanation while their rings wouldn't work?

Wiseco rings are wider if memory serves as they us a different manufacturing technique & material for their pistons so their pistons "grow" more with heat
