Lost my sprocket nut and retaining washer.

So I realize how lucky I am that I didn't have a major issue from losing my sprocket nut. But now I'm left with the question, Where am I gonna get replacements? And on the cheap?! I've used hardware stores for many replacement fasteners, But this one seems like it would be hard to pick up at my local Ace Hardware. Help! Thanks, in advance!

Either a dealer or order online.

I ended up ordering mine from bikebandit, forget the price but it wasn't bad since I paid more for shipping. This is a strang trend for sure

I got my lock washer and nut from bikebandit.com/ Fits like a glove. Dont try and guess the size, get the nut that was meant to go there. I wonder whats causing this to happen?

If the chain starts to rattle, ALWAYS check the nut first before considering a defective chain.

Oh yeah, the nut costs around 5 dllrs and so does the washer.

I only discovered mine since I went to fix a slipping clutch. It'd been off for a while from the look of it and I'd been lucky it hadn't shimmied off and damaged the threads. Particularly since I rode it while waiting for the parts.

ugh, it happened AGAIN.. with a new nut and washer... wth.. Im going to get another one but I dont know why the hell it falls off.. even tho its really tight..

you guys need to learn how to put on a sprocket!

are you not bending the retaining washer on a side to stop the nut from spinning???

are you not bending the retaining washer on a side to stop the nut from spinning???

Yes I am, thats why Im confused. I thought that bending the washer was the way to go? But I guess I had it wrong? The washer looks like a little gear itself and it bends to hug the nut right? I just ordered another from bikebandit.com

yea the inner part has teeth that match the crank drive.
you put the washer on, then the nut and crank the nut down, then bend the washer on the one side.
the hardest part is just getting that nut on tight. cause its gonna wanna turn the crank even in gear

that's why you do the old pole through the rear rim trick so it stops it at the swingarm

Hi,
the cause of lost/loose sprocket nuts is crap maintenance routine on their bike .

All fastners have torque values they are in the manual (you DO have one right)

Once per fortnight I go over all the usual suspects just as I check Gas, oil, coolant before I ride & test the lights & brakes before leaving the yard.
I tighten & lube the chain upon my return.

That way you are less likely to have a self inflicted drama.

Honestly the torque spec on this nut seems too low. It's 50 ftlbs? It should be 75 or 80 in my opinion. I always take the impact gun to it and then bend all sides of the lockwasher. But that's just how I do it.

I think you hit something there the book says 43 ft lbs for 600's and 750 & 1K's at 50ft-lbs I do not think the 600 has a different nut or thread pitch does it?
