Why thankyou George.

Small brackets and fittings I'm intending to refit are being cleaned and polished/repainted immediately they come off. That way, once the engine and frame are done I can begin assembly straight away.

More work before a 2 or 3 days enforced Christmas break.

Here's the thromostat housing and pipework, cleaned and repainted. The Devils in the detail.

A cooling system filler cap.

And the ignition coils. Not cleaned these up yet because the mounting bracked is broken. Not sure whether to weld it, or just get some new coils via Ebay.

...and a PM quickly received back!

Guys, a quick pause to say thanks. If it weren't for fellers like Cad600, Yamster, Geo and the rest of you in FZRville to help me out with parts, advice and encouragement, this build probably wouldn't happen.

Engine now out, courtesy of a helping hand from Mrs Farty, bless her. The generators connector wouldn't undo so I had to snip the wires, but that's the only grief I've had so far with the build. More pics to follow.

A freshly rebuild rear caliper, so clean you could eat your dinner off it. That said, if you did eat off it then it would get dirty and I would be very upset :cop:

Right, my operation has been brought forward to the 14th Janaury, so time to get busy before I have to endure a medically enforced break.

Here's a nice shiny starter motor.

And a cam cover that's equally surgical in it's preparation.

And while they were drying I did a quick mock up with the R6 seat unit. Looking good.

Cheers Yamster. Every item will be cleaned, polished, painted or replaced.

Tomorrows job is to take a closer look at the motor, including the valve clearances.

I've been jiggy with the Jizer tonight, de-crudding the exterior of the engine prior to stripping it further for painting - a messy task if ever there was!

Worryingly, I've discovered the engine number has been ground off. Not a lot I can do now after 3 years of ownership, but I hate the thought that the motor could be hookey. Still, I've lived with it this long.

On a positive note the valve clearances are all well within spec. Seeing as the engine ran well and didn't rattle I think I won't split it, but will confine the engine work to a good spruce up and new filters, plugs etc.

More pics soon.

Clip-ons and a few other bits painted and ready to rock as I strip the front end in readiness for prepping the frame. More pics soon.

I have to say, the frame is a very clever design - contemplating it over a smoke and a hot cup of Tetleys you can see how the load paths are designed, the clever way the upper side frame down tube mount castings extend forward under the headstock to brace it. Clever indeed, though one can seen the high amount of fabrication involved over a cast/extruded alloy frame makes it a developmental dead end in terms of production costs. Intriguing though, and the only bike to get a full on perimeter beam frame in steel, so worthy of historic note.

I'm in Hospital on Thursday and it will be a few weeks at the quickest before I can resume work on the old girl. I don't know if someone would be willing to temporarily make this thread 'sticky' so it doesn't vanish - you have my guarantee that work WILL resume, soon as my arm starts working again.

well if there was not so much chaos as far as weather / transport is concerned I would go with to the Hospital eat your grapes and tell your nurses terrible stories about you, well I must get some fun on my 63rd birthday..
So lets hope in the mean time we both have a good day..
