R,
do not buy anything for the bike till the test meter shows up something,
You have not put a location in your profile YET, there may be someone close to you who could ride over and help this weekend but no one knows where you are.

ok.....
tried the multi meter and 2 fuses seem fine(ohm wise) but the indicator one is reading 0.00 & the one for the main lights has no reading at all,
also when connecting the positive connection on the battery im getting sparks when the main fuse is in, still not too sure where the problem is.......
unfortionatly thats all i can do today, got to play a gig tonight
& the venue is 3 hours away so bike will have to wait till tomorrow

ok back to it,
i an tring the flow chart & voltage is about the same when the battery is not connected and when it is at 3k RPM so i next tried the next step(check ohms from Neg post on batt to neg connector) and im not getting any reading so not sure when to go next.
EDIT - realised i should have been checking AMPS not OHMS......oops, so now according to the flow chart i have a problem with wiring.......
also with the battery connected and ignition off i attached a bulb to the positave side of the battery and the connector and it is lighting when the ignition is off which would indicate a crossed wire,
i tried the same with the VR disconnected and it is not lighting & the bike and lights are all working fine......would that mean a faulty VR?
I just hooked up the battery as i thought i found the fault(but was wrong) BUT i checked the voltage of the battery with the ignition off and the voltage was just counting down, i thought if i took out each fuse it would let me know where the fault is but it kept counting down even without the fuses out, the only thing that stopped it was taking out the main bike fuse & the voltage then started increasing,
no idea what to try next..... can i use a multimeter to figure out where the problem is because all the wiring seems fine?

OK,
i have a new VR for it, one of the R6 types, needs a bit of drilling & rewiring but should be up and running soon
cheers for all the help guys

Re: fzr600 died... Please help
ok,
the bikes been running well for about a week now but this morning the main fuse blew when i went to start the bike.
tried another and it blew too. i checked the voltage going to the main fuse and its 12V when the bike is off.
i checked the VR and disconnected each lead one by one and it looks like it may be the earth, once its disconnected the voltage on the fuse goes to zero.
when i connect the black wire that ran to the bolt over the VR(before i changed it) and put the black one from the new VR to another point on the bike there is nothing going through the fuse, going to run down the local garage to see if they have a 30 fuse for me to check it.
the earth thing does not sound right to me, i had it wired up like the one here http://www.fzronline.com/wiki/doku.php? ... conversion
but im thinking does it need to be earthed? the old one just has the 3 white 1 red and the black just goes to the bike over the vr. can i leave the black lead coming from it disconnedted or can i earth it to another point as i assume having the 2 connected is completing a curcit..........

Re: fzr600 died... Please help
tried a few different things today but im still no further,
i tested the stator/alternator and it is running fine, rechecked the wiring to the VR but im still no further,
basicaly when i have the negitave lead from the new type VR disconnected the bike starts and runs(tested the voltage and it does not look like its charging)
as soon as i touch the earth from the VR against the plate the other lead is earthed to the fuse blows with the ignition on or off........no idea where to go next!
tried the VR flow chart and going by that it looks like its the stator but its working fine, is the negitave lead from the VR?

What made you look at the VR again?
