Hi,
I am building an FZR600 3HE for racing in the uk but am struggling on a rear shock to fit (300mm between eyelet centres), the standard one is rubbish. I have read Razor's thread about his R6 kit and am thinking about it, but am wondering if any other bikes at all have transferrable shocks? The FZR400 for example.
I have done the thundercat swingarm conversion.
Any help would be great.
Cheers

A little bit of searching will help you out a long way here. Lots of different shocks from various bikes have been used on a FZR. R6 (newer model, not "s"), Busa, GSXR, FZ1.... For the most part, they all require a little bit of work to make usable. But nothing major. If you are going racing, I would start looking for a used aftermarket shock like WP, Ohlins, or Fox. If you find a good suspension place, they can rebuild / revalve any aftermarket shock to work with any bike as long as it has a remote res. Most of the shocks will require different springs to work properly anyways.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

First off, welcome to the site! This is the place to be as far as FZRs are concerned and you should be able to find anything you need here. This is a pretty unique community who has worked really hard to make information easily available.
Take some time and look through the WIKI and the search button will also net you a lot of info as well. This site is relatively young, but chock full of info goodness. The shock swap has been gone over on numerous occasions and it boils down to the FZ1 shock being the closest bolt on from another bike. There are aftermarket ones floating around out there, but most draw a pretty penny.
The R6 shock swap is a great swap for a FZR with a stock swingarm, but becomes very difficult when using the YZF600/thundercat swingarm. The shock that RR has for sale is the same one I used when I did my swingarm swap. It had to be flipped around so the reservoir was toward the front to clear the swingarm, and the res hit the shock mount so I needed to remake it to fit. I have since learned that later R6 shocks work in this same configuration but dont need to have the shock mount reworked. See my YZF600 swingarm swap write-up. The link is in my sig.
The other components in RRs kit would still be needed-spacer bushings and dogbones. Depending on what shock and what suspension knuckle you are using can change the length needed. I am using a FZR knuckle with my YZF swingarm and my dogbones are almost exactly 5" and my ride height is very close to stock FZR. The FZR400 has essentially the same setup as the 600 and is subject to the same problems of availability and cost.
Again, welcome to the site, we do encourage newbies to introduce themselves in the approriate section, and we love pictures! And please post your location.

Re: Substitute shocks for FZR600 3HE
AS Mr F has said welcome, the FZR 4 has the same problem as the FZR 6 all the shocks are 12+ years old.Steggy43 wrote:Hi,

RR's kit is interesting to you know matter what you eventually go with as his "dogbones (shock links) are adjustable.
If you want a couple of in sites to shock swaps take alook at:-

I'll jump in here and say...
I HAVe one of the later units Mr Freeze is talking about...
And add to what Cad said...racetech WILL completely re-valve the R6 shocks with their internals for $249.
That, is on par with what you will pay for a WP, ohlins, fox or penske-used.
