Hi,
well over the last few weeks I have been chatting to aguy who has designed his own programmable ignition for his RD400 2stroke machine and been testing it on an R1 as well ( the firing system works the same on both machines.


Now I know some of you race and that some like me just like to build stuff, so I asked him if he is prepared to share since so far his prototypes have required batches of 5 boards in the making (no one would do him a one off board min order 5)

He says that once he has proved his point he will be willing to share ( how this is to be done is yet undecided )

Anyone else interested ????

I would love to get my hands on one. However, I am not very good at circuitry. Only wires. I've been meaning to read up on the subject though as I have many ideas.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

Oh god yeah I am interested.. but I got YZF box harness engine etc.. will it work for me?

iv got the yzf also but what benifit would it provide to use it. also would it help adapt fuel injection just a curiosity though i might try to put it in later for s**ts and giggles. any idea of a price range

Would it have a load reference (map or tps), or only provide advance based on RPM?

OK,
let me attempt to answer :-

They may come in kit form so learn to solder properly is a must,
diagrams with notes likely to be provided (useless if none :-}

They may be PC boards only buy your components locally or via internet for cheapest option

Complete units will be dearer to pay the guy for his work

will they work on bog standard bike YES because the timing is de-rated (see RR postings on timing advance on that )

Sold with maps Hmm may be later depends on what the guy finds will work.
Mostly I figure maps developed with your Dyno guy would be best may be we pool results <?>

TPS and a sniffer (o2 sensor) would be a nice set of channels to have.


Is he going to be able to come in at a price point below Ignitech and Microsquirt?

maps as in Manifold Air Pressure Sensors or as in ignition maps?

Personally I find it mostly useless to have an ignition system without a load source. 3d mapping (load vs. rpm) gives much better drivability to the vehicle than does 2d mapping (RPM based only).

edit: also, O2 would be useful if data logging is also a feature of this system.

If this is a solder-it-yourself board on a prototype basis and priced as such, Id be totally intersted. My grandfather taught me how to set up circuit boards by the time I was 5, so I can handle a board and a diagram. Most ignition setups are just too pricey for what you get, if you can even get one, so I would love a cheaper option. It all depends on the final price.

He was referring ignition maps I would assume

Since this whole IGNITION system is growing with ideas like topsey I am going to forward the lot to him to see your ideas "requests" etc

Thanks for the link, thats an interesting way to mount the 36-1 wheel on the flywheel/rotor.

So has he developed new circuit boards/software?, or is he just using a Megasquirt to control ignition as that website indicates?

I like that touchscreen gauge/gps computer screen!

He did say the site needed updating and his research with non -mega squirt is on going
