FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
I am brand new here, so bear with me. I have a 1986 FZ600 that was wrecked. Is there any later model FZR's that I can interchange? The FZ parts are very difficult to locate. Thanks

Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
Im not certain of this, but I am pretty sure the forks swap over to the FZ. I sold a complete FZR600 front end a few months ago to a guy who was going to put it on his FZ750 to improve the brakes. I sold him forks, triples, brakes, controls, wheel, speedo, etc. He said it was a bolt on mod, but since I have not done it, I cannot confirm.
Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
My bad. I did not set up my profile.
It looks like just the forks are tweaked. Alhtough to the naked eye the triple trees may be off. Can I take the FZR Triple trees and assembly and mount? I guess that's my question. I have an oppurtunity to get a 1990 FZR front -end complete.

If it is the steering assembly (triples & forks ) take a look for the Universal fork swap.
Basically you replace the steering stem (or most of it) with a threaded rod with bushings to suit the frames bearings.
I put this forward just in case you buy something and it does not quite fit..
This is an old idea used by racers and has been successfully adopted by members of the board.myself included. Mine was a 2004 Ducati Monster fully adjustable front end onto a 1980 RD400 which will give you an idea of it versatility.
Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
Not to sound too stupid but, where would I find this threaded rod in the diameter needed? I'm pretty handy, but have no clue to this.

Take a SEARCH for universal steering stem in the archive.fz808 wrote:Not to sound too stupid but, where would I find this threaded rod in the diameter needed? I'm pretty handy, but have no clue to this.
This is just one thread viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2561&start=45
shows it being done, NOT sure whether the diam of rod is given but I found 4 threads that have details of some sort on this mod.
Go to the WIKI or the GearHead sections as well because I believe I dumped the original info there.
Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
Looks a quite bit involved. I'll try the FZR stock stem/ front-end first. I like the the way you guys think out of the box - that is cool.

FZ,
the box is not that small I have been enlarging the motorcycle box for 50 years next january, which means I have made 50 years worth of mistakes and I hate it when history repeats because that means some poor bast&rd is wasting time re-inventing the wheel when he could be designing a go faster ride :-}

Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
I just mounted a complete FZR1000 inverted fork on my FZ600. I did not use tapered rollers in mine, I used the original loose balls from the FZ and a 30mm ball race that I had from something for the lower race on the FZR1000 steering stem. It bolted right up. It is the inverted forks from a 94 1000. I think a set of tapered rollers for the FZ600 application will work also although the bearing stack may end up too thick to get the top nut on. I'll order a set and find out. If not, loose balls work fine, they just need to be checked and adjusted a little more often. Since mine is a race bike only, no street, checking, lubing and adjusting is not a big deal.

Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
Here are a few pictures.
I also have a CBR600 F2 rear wheel on my other FZ, with the original swingarm. I know that some people like the aluminum FZ600 swing arm on the FZR400 frame, so I thought I would show it. I also have a CBR900RR shock on it. It is the same length as the original FZ at about 12".
I also stuck the FZ600 front end on my XL500s, so I would have good brakes and a different look.
I have a fair number of projects going and I am not much of a purist, so I will mix and match any pieces if they will work.

Re: FZ/ FZR 600 Front End Interchange
Those aren't 94 FZR 1000 forks. They are 91-93 FZR 1000 forks. Nonetheless they look great on your FZ.
