MotoGP + Ben Spies

Post by cad600 »

In case some of you have not heard the news in motorcycle racing the last few weeks, Ben Spies won the Word SuperBike Championship for Yamaha. This was a major event as it was Yamaha's first championship at that level and the first time a rookie has done it. It gets more exciting with the fact that Ben is moving to MotoGP next season and will partner with Colin Edwards on the Tech3 Yamaha team.

But this weekends MotoGP race hopefully will be exciting as not only is it the last race of the season, but Ben will be making a special wild card apperance this weekend on a YZF-M1 machine. Here is a link and picture of the bike. Ben's Bike Ben won the races at this track earlier this year, so at least he doesn't have to learn the track - just the bike.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

Our beloved bike maker Yamaha have finally got back into racing at full tilt again, late 70's 80's they ruled two-strokes but have had to scratch around in the 4 stroke field since then.
They now have all 3 world class championships sewn up this year

Perhaps now we will be cursed with squids on Yamaha's rather than the ubiquitous GSXR

The only place Suzuki has had any real success has been in the AMA Superbike series (Spies and Mladin the last 10 of 11 years). So... I think the GIXXER is destined to continue being the squid's bike of choice regadless of who wins at the world level...

Correction:
No such thing as a YZF-M1... it's a YZR-M1

Should be interesting to see how a WSBK champion does on a MotoGP bike, seeing as how the Rossi vs. Bayliss thing never happened. It is equally as interesting to see how he does on the M1 compared to the R1, considering that an WSBK spec R1 is probably not too far off from the M1.

if the track looks like a t-rex, spies will do well. :grinnod:

in previous moto gp races, he has never placed better than 6th place. personally, i don't think he will top a 5th place finish. but, you never know...

2010 is gonna be a great year with LOTS of talented riders in moto gp. :shocker

Agreed. It'll be good to see how Simoncelli does also. THAT guy I like! Kind of goofy yet one hell of a rider! It'll also be nice to see Stoner get back in the game after his big derailment.

I loved that video myself.

I'm not so sure about Spies. Valentino is a tough bastard, Jorge is pushing his limits and Casey Stoner is a mad man. Anyone see the last race? Stoner was GONE!

Yeah man, Stoner was crazy in the last one. It was nice to see him win at home too.

i dunno. this track looks like a dead praying mantis. i'm not sure how ben likes insects...

my predictions:
pedrosa takes lead into T1, but loses it in the first lap or two, max. (typical, as he can launch that bike better than anyone else, consistently)

stoner finishes #1
lorenzo finishes #2
rossi and pedrosa are a toss up for who's getting 3rd. leaning towards rossi on this one though.
for some reason, i think edwards is gonna be 5th, or very close in this one.
spies grabs a 6th. possibly 5th.

i also predict i will be drinking lots of new castles... heh heh

what says yous???

So mr Spies came in 7th. Very impressive.
I se that fzrbrandon likes Simoncelli and dislikes Jorge!!!
I agree that Simoncelli is a very talented rider, but he has puled one two many dirty tricks when he is pushed by the competition. Not very nice.I understand that everyone wants to win,and sometimes you have fight a bit dirty to do so,but there is a limit. In my opinion Simoncelli have passed that line a few times this season.
Jorge is pushing the his limits yes,but when he crash he is man enough to admit that is was his fault. Not blaming the bike/suspension/tyres/whatnot like Pedrosa had done so many times. No bulls**t. I think he will be a strong contender for the title next year.
OK you can kill me now Brandon

My only problem with Jorge is that he is trying to be a Rossi clone. Rossi is the showman... Jorge isn't. I think Jorge has the ability to win. He has certainly shown that he can keep up with Rossi, so I think he has a chance. He just needs to keep his wits about him and focus on the race.
