all 1989-1999 carbs the same?

Post by mjw7800 »

just like the title says

i was thinkin about pickin up a extra set of carbs,,and rebuilding them over the winter,

and then swapping them out onto my 1989 FZR

i just wanted to double check to see if all the carbs are the same on all years,,or were there any slight changes?

my bikes a 1989,,so i know they already have a hand full of differences on it

just didnt wanna waste money buying the wrong year stuff,

thanks

The only differences I know of is the EXUP (Cali) model. I would get photos of the one you want before you buy. We can verify it for you.

Here is a pic of the EXUP carbs - see the hoses that come out the bottom the carbs on the right? They attach to the vapor canister. I removed them and filled the holes with JB Weld. There are some differences in the jet sizes as well.

They are overflow hoses.

Ive got a set of parts carbs in my parts bin and they are different that whats on my bike. I am assuming they are from a 90, since my bike was a 90, but had the engine and carbs swapped out, but the parts came with the bike. The spot where the cables atach to the throttle were slightly different, and a few other minor differences, but the jetting was the same, just different hardware.

This is a VERY good point and I was going to bring it up a earlier tonight but got sidetracked. I think there was a change over around '92 or so. I bought a set of carbs for my '92 because I needed to replace the throttle bell crank. I bought a set from a fellow board member who, if my memory serves correctly, said they were ALSO from a '92 but the bell crank was in fact different (as Freeze mentioned). The difference is that one of the two cables (don't remember which) is actually screw-tightened on on one set but on the other the cable just slips into a cable receiver (for lack of a better word) and is not tightened in any way. If you check the fiches for the cable part numbers you'll see that there is a different push or pull cable at some point. I'd look it up and post links but I'm too damn tired so I'm going to bed! LOL!
