Alternative?
Well that is a shorty exhaust and it says that it should be used for off road use...But my question is not even about the muffler but about the pipe.
In the pic look carefully...At the under belly there is no pipe hanging under-neath the belly like in this picture.
Now mine is way worse than that..That one actually looks like its blending in with the black fairings..But mine is older and sticks out way more...
My question is...The shorty exhaust exempts that pipe from showing...Well looks like it to me..
I was wondering if there is any alternative to exempt that pipe from showing! Thanks

Re: Alternative?
No there is all different angles of pics i just chose that one...All of them you cannot see the pipe
Re: Alternative?
Um...just a thought but that black bike probably has an aftermarket or custom header in addition to the shorty muffler. They usually aren't bent in the same pattern as the stock setup. I'm actually not sure what you're asking...

Re: Alternative?
Ummm... I have to agree. That basically looks like straight open header set-up (i.e. no muffler whatsoever). That can't be legal ANYWHERE on the streets in the U.S. And to back up George's statement - The WSMC rulebook here in California states "All motorcycles shall be equipped with a muffling device if they exceed the limit of 108dB". I realize it's 3dB more than what the pipe in the pic's got going BUT consider that this is a rule for the race track! The limit for the street is surely MUCH lower.yamaha_george wrote:That is not LEGAL at some of our race tracks let alone roadsXxxYoOoOxxX wrote:Hmm well i have no idea...And was thinking of different alternatives to make it look like that b/c

Just adding to this:
Here's what I found online for Massachusetts:
Massachusetts, pending legislation Posted 9/10/09
House Bill 3332 provides the following:
AN ACT FURTHER REGULATING MOTORCYCLE SOUND LEVELS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 7U of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:- "The use and sale of any exhaust pipe that increases the sound emission of any vehicle including motorcycles shall be prohibited. All motorcycle exhaust pipes must conform to 82dBA maximum noise level measured directly to the rear exhaust outlet at a distance of 12 inches. The angle of measurement shall not exceed 30 degrees. Sound measurements taken beyond 12 inches that exceed the requirements are not acceptable. Violation of said decibel level, or illegal retrofitting, will result in a license suspension for six (6) months and/or a fine not to exceed two hundred and fifty dollars ($250)."
And for California (albeit, a bit less formal):
For motorcycles manufactured before 1970, the noise limit of 92 dbA.
After 1969 and before 1973, 88 dbA.
After 1972 and before 1975, 86 dbA.
After 1974 and before 1986, 83 dbA.
After 1985, 80 dbA.
Sooo... You're asking for trouble with that set-up.

Re: Alternative?
Here is a better picture if you guys dont understand what i am asking
Re: Alternative?
the black bike may have an aftermarket belly pan, enclosed for track use. That is what i have. granted my bike is a different story alltogether(chorus "granted my bike is a different story")
you could probably buld a fiberglas belly part and mold it into your existing fairings. or look for an aftermarket racing belly pan, will most likely be a bit lower and encompass the header.

I did that.
