In the ever-off-topic random thoughts thread reelrazor mentioned using fogging oil for prep before winter storage.
Anyone have experience with this, or is a tablespoon of oil in each cylinder sufficient?

I feel that fogging or putting oil in the cylinders is overkill, unless you are prepping your bike for an extended storage of years. I don't think it is likely that piston rings will stick to cylinder walls in only a few months, especially if you use a good quality engine oil in your crankcase.WSM wrote:In the ever-off-topic random thoughts thread reelrazor mentioned using fogging oil for prep before winter storage.

Our engines stop with two cylinders at or near tdc and two at or near bdc.
the two that finish low will have scraped any excess oil off the bore on their way down.
Ever seen how fast a film of oil develops on a steel cylinder liner? When you hone them and warm soapy water wash them, you need to dry them and oil them within about 10 minutes or a visible rust forms. I figure two, three(four?) months of cold storage.....$4 can of fogging oil and a set of spark plugs come spring? It's a no brainer.
