Project "Never satisfied" - A very British rebuild!

OK, moved house and I now have that wonder of wonders, a garage! Ah, the heady aroma of oil and grease mingling with tobacco fumes and the steam from my PG tips is a wondrous thing to experience!

Anyway, with some smart new premises my rebuild can continue. Now, as per usual, it's gotta be on a budget - the car needs a few hundred spent on it for it's MOT (yearly government inspection) and Mrs Farty has threatend to withold nuptuals unless I get jiggy with some decorating. Bummer.

So, in the interests of economy and achieving my favoured style on the cheap I'm going for the cafe racer look, so the standard clip ons but with a single 7" round headlamp are the order of the day. The frame is being repainted by myself, with hidden areas (such as the sub frame) being painted by hand with a thick, durable enamel paint called Hammerite Smooth (not sure you colonial boys get it over there, which is a shame). The visible parts of the frame will be spray painted with the same paint.

The GSXR SRAD shock is now in place after much cussing, as is the newly painted swinger. It seems my tourettes is back and unlikely to be cured until work is complete! The wheels are conna be stripped with polished rims and black spokes. The seat unit looks likely to be a Duke 916 monoposto job, painted to match the VGC Kosinski special edition tank and front mudguard that I still have. Engine side cases to go black.

Sounds straightforward, but there's a hideous amount of work painting little brackets, relocating electrics, finding a home for a gel battery and a smaller coolant tank, etc that really slows things down, but the plan is for the old girl to turn a wheel come spring time.

OK, some pics. Apologies for them being a bit dark.

First pic shows the glossily painted swinger, and the repainted subframe...



Next one shows the fitted SRAD shock to good effect. In the end I didn't use the 'George' method of having top hat bushes machined to accept the 10mm Suzi bolt, but had the shock eye machined out to 12mm and kept the Yammy bolt. Many thanks to Dave in Facilities at work for doing this for me I then machined 2 x 5mm spacers from PTFE rod to space the top...

OK, more pics to come soon. What started as a spruce up has turned into a full nut and bolt re build! Tiny little details take the times, such as the 4 hours taken polishing the chain adjusters so they look like chrome!

As regular site readers willr ecall, my bike was originally a special edition model in John Kosinski inspired colours. Apart from mine I've never seen another in the flesh, although I've found a superbike magazine article from 1990 announcing the run of bikes.

The fairing is smegged, but the tank and front mudguard have been subjected to a little careful touching in, polishing back and waxing and have come up like new. Plan is to put my hand in my pocket and get the seat unit professionally painted to match, which'll cost a pretty penny but should finish the machine off nicely.
