Issues *sigh*

Post by zero9243 »

So I changed spark plugs last week and for the first 4 or 5 days it ran great. I also started using 87 octane (regular) at the pump at the same time that I switched over to new plugs. here we are a week later and when I go to fire my bike up once cylinder fires up. It started out where i'd be running on 3 cylinders and then this morning i go to start it and i'm on 1! I'm gonna throw some of the old plugs in to see if the current ones got fouled somehow but the 87 gas wouldn't be the culprit would it?

Been running 87 (with Ethanol) ever since I bought the bike last June. That shouldn't be the issue unless you've changed the compression.

Nothing really should have changed. I'm gonna change out the plugs again and see what is going on. The CR9E's come with an acceptable gap(.030) for the fzr (.025 - .035) but one of them i accidentally regapped before i remembered they didn't have to be gapped so maybe i damaged the plug. But that was only with one of them.. idk

It clicks when i throw the button to *start.* That should mean it's working right?

generally yes!

you could always yank the fuel like to the carbs to really check :yuck:

or just drain a float bowl or something....then it should click a few times as it has to fill the carb.

I would double check the wires and caps...since you messed with em, maybe they came loose on ya

yah. I should really just do the damn ford coil pack conversion. one of my plug boots (or w/e you call the rubber piece taht goes over the spark plug) is cracked but it has been cracked since the day i had my bike. Also, when this first started happening, only 3 cylinders would fire until the bike was warmed up, then all 4 would go. I could even turn it off and back on and all 4 would fire up again if the bike was still warm.

Z,
The octane difference makes no odds.

The last thing you did was change plugs bafore all this issue started.

Pull the plugs and check for fouling / wetness (since gas is still going in and NOT being burned ) any other speculation is just that !

Guys,
if you do not enjoy it why are you doing it?

My work was always a grin even in the military as it was what I liked to do
( my shrink is very worried by that statement ) he thinks there is basically something wrong about a someone who likes creeping up on another & killing them, the fact that you got paid for doing just that and that the other bastard would do it to you never seems to come into his equation screwy

the military gave me lots of time to ride / fix bikes with wonderful workshops & access to really bright guys at MIT / calTech / white sands etc was a real hoot.

The great buzz of sky diving & para jumping was a bonus .

Yup Ok it was a bit hairy at times and I did bleed a few times but WTF I am still breathing & riding

I'm not saying I don't like my job, I'm just saying it sucks that my bike isn't working and i'd rather be at home fixing it and riding then being at work

I enjoy my job, not as much as tinkering on bikes.....but that didnt pay very well, and tinkering with computers pays much better.

But I have already worked 40 hours this week as of 15 minutes ago.....no play time at all so far this week......gets tiring banghead
