messing with the r6 header

Post by demon_knight69 »

well, i was out changing my oil and had the exhaust off so i figured i'd throw the r6 header that nate (thatkid) modded for me. here's a couple pics and a vid (yes i couldn't help myself, had to hear what it was like with straight exhaust). sorry for the crappy phone pics  . and i still gotta figure out what can i'm gonna run :ermm:

Whoot! Glad it's on. I did the same thing when I was rebuilding my bike. Totally had to fire it up without the slip-on.

yeah, unfortunately i need the bike to get to work, so had to put the old stuff back off for now. next project is the water pump on my car :yuck: not looking forward to it.

btw, i don't suggest anyone living in the phoenix area work on bikes/cars in the afternoon. hottest part of the day definitely NOT the wisest choice. i'm so burnt out now :tard:

TK,
That is a nice shot of your workmanship.
I notice that all the pipes have sensor bungs on them is that original or you ?

The "spacer" braces are they hollow & connect the pipes ?
hollow and just spacers?
solid & are spacers
And lastly (since I cannot find the thread) did you have to "unweld" the collection point to get the heardes to match the FZR spacing ?
Thanks

so i rode the bike to work today and it was sounding a little funny. it sounded like i had a bit of an exhaust leak or something. i also had something hit me in the foot :headscratch: . i was still in a bit of a daze from not getting much sleep, so just kept riding. i get to work and look at the header and realize that cylinders 3 and 4 have the clamp things hanging off and the nuts are missing :ermm:

so i say again, DON'T work in the heat. i don't know if i just forgot to tighten the nuts down all the way, or if they just came loose. either way, i've got a bit of an exhaust leak for sure bonkonhead

the sensor bungs are original.
the spacer rods are solid pieces.
and you simply use a hack saw to hack the H-pipe in half and this plate on the bottom that holds the pipes in place.
after that, you stretch them and weld in your spacers.
I had my H-pipe welded back up. I didnt do a very good job though because its not exactly "bolt-on" after welding the pipe closed back in a bit so now when I go to put on headers I have to stretch them with 2x4, then install the headers, then remove 2x4.
