general 2nd gear q

anyone ever replace or fix a 2 gear that slips nasty bad or basicly dont work at all? g/f said if i wanna fix it she will buy all the parts to get her ninja up to snuff. im already at $300 for parts to fix everything expect 2nd gear.

what kinda shit should i look for? ive worked on dirtbike motors 2 and 4 strokes and rebuild them and split cases about 5-6 times already but they all had working trannys.

lemme know, its a 1989 zx7 1st year!

can i see if the shifting dogs bent or a took is chipped off the gear if i drop the oil pan?

On a FZR600, you would be able to see this by removing the oil pan. Most engines of that era where made with generally the same configuration, but without ever looking at an old ass Ninja engine I can only guess. Again, if it is like the FZR engine, you should be able to fix the shift dogs without taking the cases apart. But if it is a gear that is shot, your going to have to take the cases apart.

sweek thanks, i asked her last night and she said it does stay in gear if you dont get on it bad so thats good cheaper news for me! ill have it in the garage next week some time. then get pics and go to town on it.

god awful front end......fork swap with a never ninja front end ya mean or what fairing conversion to 91+? found a pic of what im gonna make it look like.

she got old ass 2nd look seat covers on it, all faided and shit. but she wants to copy this bike.



new parts list will include:
flo blue tarage windscreen
530 JT front sprocket 15T -1 from stock
530 JT rear sprocket 48T +2 fromt stock
RK or EK 520 o or x ring chain
counter shaft oil seal
new chain gaurd/guide for swingarm (its missing)
leak proof fork seals
43mm clip ons, (vortex)
tank latch hardware
chain adjusters and hardware
needs clean carbs and or rebuilt
polish the wheels (spokes only green currently)
posibly ditch the yosh exhaust for a mussy or V&H supersport!
