I got a problem

Post by XxxYoOoOxxX »

Alright well my 89 fzr is an OLD bike..And it runs great dont get me wrong..Its an awesome bike!

But I have noticed..When i stop at a light or stay parked (w/ bike on) the ( C & H ) The cold and hot thingy...Well my bike will go ALL the way up to H!!

I havent had it shut off yet on me..But it has been very close.. So i pulled over and then i tried to turn my bike on...It wouldnt turn on all i heard was like a fan..B/c it overheated i assume..

So this is what im thinking..When im sitting and my temp keeps rising..My fan doesnt turn on..It only turn's on when it reaches all the way to H..Which i dont think that my fan is suppose to stay off till then..

Or i think its my water pump..Oh yes and my anti-freeze looks fine to me everything connected u know..Its right at the line that says full..

So what do u guys thing it is? Help me out

Check the fluid level at the cap and make sure it is full (after it cools down of course) You will have to remove the fuel tank cover to check it.

*cough* Manual Fan switch *cough*

its helped me tons...every time I stop at a light, I turn on the fan and it stays at about 175-185.
the auto fan on the fzr doesnt kick on till it hits about 220...225 is dangerous...230 your bike is about to take a s**t

Another thing that it could be is a stuck thermostat. Takes a little more getting to than the other things mentioned, so I'd save it for last, but my bike quit boiling over and doesn't overheat as much since I replaced my thermostat.

One thing you have to remember about our bikes is that they were designed to move, so even a perfectly running FZR will have its temp go up when sitting at a light; the radiators are just too small to sit idling at a light for too long.

It's pretty normal.

And , like Shred-who lives in Florida-says.. a manual fan switch will prevent the bike from heating up THAT much

There's a number of things to check. Temperature sensor, thermal unit, thermal switch, temp gauge, thermostat, rad-cap, water pump... I'd been having this problem since I got the bike.. over 2 years now.. I changed EVERYTHING. coolant, water pumps, thermal unit/switches, gauges, etc... And I even ran the manual fan switch, tried running 2 fans. 1 in front and 1 in behind the rad.. Still no luck. When you check everything, and it's still doing it. It's likely time to check the headgasket.
