Hi i just bought a 89 fzr 600 a week or so ago the guy i bought it from said it had a new battery the week before the bike has started every monring and has ran great this morning the battery was dead so i put my charger on it started right up rode a couple of miles to the gas station it stared right backup took it on a 100 mile ride when i got home i shut it off it had a little fould smell kind of like hot acid but not exactly i went back out about a hour later now the batterys dead again and help would be apperciated the battery looks to be full thanks
Re: battery help
The smell you found, it smelled like rotten egg correct? Double check the water level in the battery and see if that helps. But usually that would indicate the VR destroying the battery. Get a new VR (you'll want to do the 5 wire upgrade) and you may need a new battery.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Spot on diagnosis by Cad.
I'll add that if you don't address this quickly, you risk damaging more expensive items than the battery (ignition box, gauge cluster, etc.)
The ONLY running of this unit I would be doing is a 1 minute test to verify overcharging. (have voltmeter handy...start it up....connect tester leads to battery..rev it up and watch the meter reading....if it climbs past about 13.5Vdc or so, the regulator/rectifier-also known as 'the VR' needs to be replaced)
