How much for re-painting?

Post by XxxYoOoOxxX »

Alright well i bought my bike used..And there is some cosmetic damage done to the fairings and what not.

If i was to buy all the materials and paint..I would just buy black paint just all black..

How much would that probably cost me? And is it easy to do if i have a gun to spray with

You can do a nice job with a rattle can if you take you time. Here is a link from another member. His came out very nice, you can just use black instead of white.

Definitely use the gun if you have one.

I had only ever watched my Uncles guys use a Pro spray gun, and done the Odd rattle can Job on my bikes before I left the "old Country".

Once I went abroad it was very much learn to do it your self, the locals thought you were a "mark".

All the bikes for KGB racing I sprayed :-
See: http://www.saltmine.org.uk/kgb/gallery.html
Including pin stripes etc. The "decals" were hand painted by an Ex-pat and you would have to look REAL careful to see they were not stickers.

The trick of painting is prep and when you feel it is right prep it again !

Go to a good auto paint supply store and they will help you out(mention you are painting on plastic or fiberglass and they will know what to give you). Make sure you use a good flexible primer(so it won't crack) ,paint and clear coat. Also wet sand after the primer and paint ..Mine turned out pretty good and cheap for the first time and I knew nothing about painting. I got my spraygun at Checkers for $20 and all the supplies for less than $100..Of course this was for all the fairings. Are you going flat black or glossy black? I would say it is pretty easy if you prep the fairings good and have some patience. Maaco wanted about $450-600 to paint all the fairings ..Ha ha what a joke! Do it yourself and do it good , that's my theory.. If you mess up you can always wet sand and start over.

Let me know if you need help on the steps , sanding .. Good luck!
